The one thing I would say is UKMO's only model goes against the update tonight so we are non the wiser GFS shows the Atlantic winning through next week turning things milder again with highs around 14c

yeah but they do have other models or equipment that we dont have access to surely to put an update out like that they must be pritty confident

Indeed the difference between UKMO and GFS at such a short range is shocking tonight I don't think anyone has a clue what will happen next week

It will either be cold with snow in the east or just cold and cloudy for a few days before turning milder maybe ECM and the ensembles will shed some light later on

Finally the Boro have scored thanks to McDonald (Samobi assist) but Huddersfield have just made it 1-1 in the fog typical

Make that 2-1 Huddersfield 2 points off the playoffs we must beat Bristol on Saturday now its a must win

The 0z GFS would bring heavy snow on Sunday, but then the high slowly sinks so the snow would gradually turn more marginal. The ECM on the other hand is incredibly cold for all of next week really. All the main models show maximum temperatures below freezing by Sunday, with 850s well below -10, which is pretty impressive for mid March.

MUSIC TO MY EARS BY GIBBY

In Summary the weather will take a sharp turn colder early next week as High pressure over Greenland pulls very cold Arctic winds South over the UK. With Low pressure close by to the UK there looks to be plentiful opportunities for snowfall, more especially but not exclusively to Northern and Eastern Britain but maybe in the South and SW too should Low pressure close to the SW push troughs up into the cold air from the South. Frosts will be widespread and sharp so Gardeners beware the last few days of mild Spring weather was a false dawn and we will have to wait quite a while for anything remotely Springlike temperature wise looking at this morning's output and Jet Stream profile.

How long is this cold weather going to last next week, because it now looks like it's pretty much nailed on

GFS 06z says 4 days max temps back to around 7c by Wednesday

Tuesday sees temperatures rise into positive territory again after a bitter Monday

ukmaxtemp.png

Wednesday we see highs of 6 to 8c

ukmaxtemp.png

By Thursday we again see temperatures ranging from 6 to 8c

I can't see anything other than snow showers, and a lot of them if the latest GFS and ECM verify for our region, at least in the initial blast.

Please can this not get watered down, just for once?

From Ian fergusson in the MOD thread

The only saving grace is our expectation for daytime RST's in many low-lying areas to rise sufficiently to mitigate against prolonged lying snow, but with threat of substantial nocturnal accumulations. It's knifedge regarding regional/localised potential for disruption and UKMO will hold fire on early warnings until better continuity on coldest solutions and then some understanding of how RST's will respond (and thus how much any snow could accumulate to become troublesome).

So by that some areas could be marginal whilst some others could get pasted its just a case of wait and see now

He's not talking about anything being marginal in terms of snow falling. He's talking about snow lying.
