Keeping my fingers crossed for some showers coming down from the north in the early hours.

Hmmmm not sure they will be of snow though

You know how it works down here,if there's a chance it wont be snow,it wont be.

Nice to put a face to a name.

Currently the upper air temperatures are coldest in the south of england, and with low dewpoints, snow is by far the most likely form of precipitation for today at least. Tomorrow is a different story though.

Few flakes coming down here right now. First we've seen all day. Thing is, the sky's looking clear.....

Coldest night of winter by a mile here. Ice only started melting this afternoon

Perhaps if i keep my fingers crossed aswell,we might just get lucky.

Have got my doubts though

The snow has finally stopped falling here in Jersey. Approximately 31 hours worth of continuous heavy snow has brought the island to a stand still. Flying to and from Jersey Airport is suspended until 14:00 tomorrow and schools will remain closed as many roads are treacherous. Snow showers are forecast here tonight with the temperature expected to remain around freezing. Pictures to follow shortly good.gif

How much snow have you actually got!? Ish? As I know much of it will have drifted!

We had island wide drifts of between 3 and 5 foot but are still awaiting official confirmation of how much snow actually fell. My guesstimate would be between 6 and 10 inches.

What was your personal final tally Fitzwis, how did it measure up to others on the Islands?

EDIT: beaten to it once again, but you should really get your tape measure out, tut tut.

Well, there's certainly no spring warmth in the models at the moment, quite the opposite infact.

If only these synoptic charts were around in Dec/jan,the potential would have been increadible.

As it stands, spring looks like being delayed a bit.

Might have to wait a bit longer to see my first swallow cray.gif

edit : saw bats out for the first time this year. Think it was last tuesday 5th before this cold spellgood.gif

I see more talk of a widespread snow event in mod thread but I cant see it happening to be honest.

Unfortunately feel the same. It always looks good now, but very rarely actually comes to much. I think it's probably it for us lot, in terms of significant stuff. It's been an ok winter, we've all got a spell of it at some point, but my overwhelming emotion will be frustration and so many of these ''so close, yet so far'' events that have dominated the period!

For example, this event was suggested to be huge for the south west, but we got nout really. Not that cold out there today as well, away from the wind. Got up to 5c.

ok, ok, my bad :) although I did use a ruler to measure the depth outside our front door at half 7 yesterday evening and it was 3 inches deep (after the first 12 hour onslaught) so double that for the next 12 hours and add another 1.5 inches for the next 6 to 7 hours and my grand total was approximately 7.5 inches. The drifts in my back garden were at least 2 to 3 foot deep. Oh, and here's the link to more pics I took today around our area - don't get too jealous now blum.gif

I've found often in the mod thread that if you hear stuff like that, widespread means from the Midlands northwards, it's as if they forget anything further south from there even exists!

31 hours! Outstanding, the only thing we've ever had falling from the sky for that long continously around here is rain! lol

On South Today earlier, Alexis said that there's the potential that some of tomorrow's wintry showers could be 'pokey'.

Whether it snows or not, that's my status update sorted... 'Think Alexis, think pokey'.
