No snow but that is a savage hard penetrating frost outside, probably worst of winter with the wind freezing everything. -5.1c dew point -11

Well snow showing no sign of easing in fact it's increasing here in Angmering, looks like the real heavy stuff is heading north, right for us!

A great day to remember and some forecasts going for up to 10cm tonight in Sussex! icon_smile_shock.gifclapping.gifgood.gif

Last post for me tonight...

Seems the Main PPN band is now moving Northwards, but really having a hard time coming ashore at the moment. This is probably due to the strong NE'ly winds. Shower activity continues to stream along the Northern flank of the front, running SW'rds from a line from Hampshire, right up to the Essex coast. The land track is effecting these showers as they are decay as the reach the Hampshire/Surrey border.

If the main PPN can make it ashore in the next few hours, Coastal counties of Hampshire, Sussex and IOW will pick up a few more cm's before the night is out.

If the showers win out, people in the line from the IOW/Southampton NE'wards will get a covering.

We shall see what the morning brings!

Take care

SM

Not gonna lie, this afternoon was disappointing. All the laying snow melted at lunchtime and the falling stuff was too fine and dry to ever settle. It is snowing now but it is so hard it looks more like glitter than feathers. Don't think this little shower will amount to anything.

Temp -1.7C, windchill -8.5C (was -9.8), DP -9.6, wet bulb -3.9C. Humidity 55% and finally rising, Pressure 1006mb and falling.

No disrespect to our central southern neighbours but south west weather can be quite different at times, next winter i'd like to see a south west regional thread back please.

Morning peeps

Waking up to 2 foot drifts IMBY (literally) which means in outlying areas on the island the drifting must be double that, at least! It continues to snow persistantly and is forecast to continue until mid to late afternoon. Current temp -0.8, pics to follow later.

Just seen BBC news and they had Cheryl baker in there who has been stuck all night somewhere and who is calling it a Fiasco as no one has been out to grit or rescue them. What planet are some people on. And as she said "knew about the snow " why n earth did they decide to drive to rescue their kids last night... How thick are people ? Grit won't do a thing in heavy snow and with the cuts governments can't just have a load of snow ploughs standing by costing millions for that one off snow event.. Grrrhh. ( interestingly one chap just now also stuck on the M23 coming from Bognor did just say it was bad when he left Bognor and he should have stayed there...)

Local radio just announced we have the worst snow for at least 30 years, airport still closed, many roads are treacherous and the advice is to stay in doors unless your journey is absolutely necessary. Schools are closed too surprisingly! :)
