Congratulations Stewart and all the best for the future :) as many others have said, you will be greatly missed. I too have learnt so much from your informative posts and really opened my mind up to how the world weather patterns click together and it's something I will continue to try and understand.

Alongside the obvious depth of knowledge and commitment of time to examine global factors, your posts have always held our respect for your evident talent and judgement.

Somehow, within a few people such as yourself , the brain manages to integrate data in a way that even the best computer models struggle. That talent is a rare and precious thing.

On so many occasions you have challenged the model outputs and later been proven right and (importantly for this forum) you have taken the trouble to explain why.

I echo all that others have said and do hope that you may be able to pop back from time to time if not to forecast, then perhaps to comment retrospectively giving pointers on factors that had been given too little consideration.

I won't say good luck as I believe your success comes from skill not luck - just hoping that your skill is well understood, applied and rewarded.

Have fun, we shall indeed miss you!

The number of replies and views of this thread is testament to the high regard with which GP's forecasting skill is held. Since joining NW, one of the greatest highlights for me has been reading GP's seasonal forecasts and analysis. Not only is the forecasting innovative, but the level of detail and enthusiasm clearly evident in these forecasts is something I've yet to come across elsewhere, and has really helped make advanced meteorology accessible to newcomers. I've certainly learned a lot.

Very best for the future Stewart, and hopefully you'll still have a chance to post here occasionally.

I dont see why Stuart can't still post here occasionally. Many pro forecasters such as Ian F and Matt H still do. Does anyone know where he is working and where we can see his forecasts? Big loss to net weather and it's community!! Good luck Stuart

As Stewart says in his post:

This requires complete dedication and precludes any public forecasting role.

His forecasts won't be available for public consumption, here or anywhere else.

Well Gp you were the reason for me why this site had the edge on the others when it came to long range forecasting.

Good luck for the future.

Pity there's a gagging order like others say his work will be missed.
