No, that's an illusion. In general terms, everything is moving SW-NE

It depends where you live:

Thats crazy! As exciting as these storms are, no doubt they were a little terrifying as well! Just seen on blitzortung how many strikes were basically colouring the map was incredible. Very powerful.

Turned volume up..it also set the car alarm off outside! Remember seeing something similar to that a good many moons ago...hasn't to say the sheer randomness frightened me more than the actual instant flash and subsequent loud whip crack sound! There was no few seconds delay..Ears rang a bit too, eyes stung :)Nice catch though.

Just caught some what look like, huge, high towering cumulus clouds amongst the broken haze in South Bucks. Looks potentially thundery, but I doubt it. So far, I'm right again, unfortunately. Patchy drizzle is the best we can get here....Yawn.

Raining heavy in Belper but that's it. All that mass of showers around me and not one sferic. Tomasz on BBC still thinks we will get storms this evening, but I just don't see it. I hope he is right and I am wrong.

Firing off across the east now. Nowt over this side of the country though. Looks like pretty rapid development over Lincolnshire way.

LINCOLNSHIRE???????? REALLY???????? OH MY GOD WHO'D HAVE THOUGHT IT???

zzzzzzzzz So much for UK weather being supposedly unpredictable.

Sorry MetOffice but a custard pie is coming your way....epic fail.

How come it shows that has been sferics across the UK when there hasn't been a single strike? Posted Image

So the thunderstorms developed in France, died across East Anglia, then blew up again in Lincolnshire.

Watch out in the North Sea tonight...

Standard norfolk weather, thick low cloud and 12 degrees. No chance of seeing any light show

There's no thunderstorms in Lincolnshire, just lots of rain as there is here.

If there are going to be thunderstorms anywhere this evening then keep eyes on those cells around Hereford and Worcester. These are developing in higher CAPE, it is a big IF though.

Attenuation can cause that but it can also be a bit more sensitive, so it may have picked up a couple across the Midlands early this morning.

No but worse luck or should things KO over the sea instead..Another perhaps mute point re our lack of action? Seem to recall many years when just prior to thunder, there would be a sudden infestation of flying ants? Now, of course the ants may well be still hiding somewhere - it is the trigger mechanism that gets them to do the flapping, escaping the nest etc that got me thinking... Edited by triple_x1

On small cell has made it to Dunkirk, producing lightning as it goes. However, now it's crossing towards the UK the bit over the water has fizzled.

I cannot speak fro the whole of Lincolnshire, but in my little part of the county there has just been heavy, frontal-type rain, with no sign of any cumuliform cloud - just Nimbostratus.  No lightning or thunder either.
