London/Kent/E Sussex homegrown chances,

The skew-T for London Heathrow,

post-5986-0-54267900-1374571853_thumb.gi

A moderately convective environment (KI=34,LI=-4) leads to likely thunderstorms but homegrown ones are unlikely to be severe (TT=50). There is a very small chance that one or two severe storms could occur. A very small cap should easily be eroded as overnight deritus clears giving strong diurnal heating (CIN=4) Some of the showers that form are likely to include intense precipitation (PW=35mm) and the stronger of the cells are likely to feature frequent lightning and or hail (CAPE=1128 j/kg) Chances of homegrown storms disappears rapidly after sunset.

There is good chance of French imports, and that is where any severe weather is likely to originate from.

Wow that took some catching up with going through the night's posts! Took my son outside at 11pm when the first rain came down so he could smell the air - always love that.

Thunder is rumbling around in the distance out of a grey sky, nothing spectacular, just regular rumbles and something of a breeze in very humid air. Son is off to Whipsnade Zoo today for a school trip, so I hope the weather stays reasonably clear. The big storms can come laterPosted Image

Edit: just got a proper deep and sudden rumble - maybe it's the convection Surrey mentioned between Heathrow and Reading, plus what's going up rapidly SW of London. Hope today's graduates and their families have their raincoats!

Morning all,

It's 22.3 °C with 80% humidity here in MK - the sun has broken through the milky cloud cover enough to dry up last nights rain which was very heavy, I'm not sure if we had any more thunder or lightening here last night I was too tired after such a busy day to stay awake especially knowing I have an equally long day today.

Fingers crossed for some more action today Posted Image

Am sure I can hear the odd rumble here. Hard to make out livings under the flight path. Looking on radar the storms/rain seem to be moving north of brentford.

Still feeling a bit on the close side!! I think another night of cooking outside on the BBQ.

Hope u all have a brilliant day..

Lukes back from camping lastnight. Apparently the teachers had the kids out of the tents and running into the coach. Luke said it was a dramatic night lol.

Being several miles north of you the other side of Heathrow, I can confirm there are almost constant rumbles going on. Skies are that twilighty grey colour and I am pretty sure they are darkening.

A real fluffy owl?! Just got a distinct louder rumble here now.

Edit: yes, the distinct and more 'cracking' thunder is definitely more frequent now; can't see any lightning.

It's a bloomin big triangle now - the whole of Norfolk. Ha ha. 'Scuse me whilst I go into the garden to chase the drizzle....
