I'm tired this evening and might go for a very early sleep tonight soon.Posted Image

Then I might wake before dawn and spy Orion in the clear early morning skies. It will have been visible before dawn for about a month now, but should be obvious now. One of the great sights of the Winter skies for me, so a precursor will be nice. Posted Image The visible firmament retreats by two hours a month, so the sky at five (4 GMT) in the morning is the same as 22:00 GMT in mid December, moon and planet movements excepted. Posted Image

Im eagerly waiting to see that as well. But of a night time. The brightest star at the moment is Vega. The other star formation to look for is Cassiopeia. ðŸ‘

Might recover these a little in the final week hopefully.

ECM ens look fantastic by the way, would be settled and sunny from Friday afternoon onwards :)

Also just for fun look at the potential cold building up right where we want it

Posted Image

Big mass of blue over the other side of the pole, this side looks pretty warm except for Greenland as per usual. But Siberia would be doing better than last year at this time Posted Image

Hi Leigh and thanks for the message in your later post. All the best with regards to obtaining your Cabbies badge mate.Posted Image

Are you sure they were Christmas lights you saw though ? Shame on the occupants if they were because I agree it's just plain wrong this early in the year. The reason I ask is that it's not that unusual around here to see houses festooned with lights at various times of the year, often to do with religious festivals of various faiths or a birth or marriage in the family. Some of the displays would put Blackpool Illuminations in the shade !

Oh, and the weather has calmed down here, clear skies, a bright moon and currently 11c.

Thanks mate. Yes deffo Christmas lights, they had the snowman illuminated as well 😉. 12c here. Goodnight all, this is way past my normal bedtime.

Thanks for reminding me. We have a scheduled power blackout all tomorrow. I think I'd better shut the kitchen window or the house will be freezing all day - the underfloor heating relies on the thermostat which relies on electricity.

Useful stuff.

All the best to you also BB. I get made redundant in January, so I have to start looking for a job, to bridge the time until I get my green badge (London black cab license) not looking forward to the job hunting though.... Sounds pretty tough out there.

Although I hated it at the time, my periods of unemployment (about 4 or 5 lasting 6 months for the longest) were helpful. I learned to knit really well, and painted and did tapestry.

I also managed to access a Macintosh computer (around 1988) which was owned by this lady who was digitising all the fonts for the Evening Standard and Daily Mail. Because I had the free time to really learn how they worked and learn software, once I got another job, I was better than the people in full-time work who'd gone on a course for a week. Make good use of your time as it's not wasted.

Morning.

You wake up on a work day and as you leave the house, an amazing sunrise greets you:

Actually better than shown here, it's going to be the start of a great day!

Driving across Sussex, a chilly Autumn morning seems alright and everything is going well for a Tuesday, then an enthusiastic truck driver goes and ruins it all:

No one hurt and the 'off road' capabilities of a SAAB have just been put to the test in an effort to avoid a probable 3 hour queue Posted Image

I hope everybody's day goes well Posted Image

Followed this cloud South last night for about 20 minutes. It was around 7 miles wide and seemed like a downburst, but was probably just a heavy single cell with some very localised rain dropping from it. Excuse the quality of the pictures, I didn't have a decent camera to hand:

So tempted to wear my winter boots this morning. I am refusing to do so until I get back from holiday.

Morning South-Easterners and East Anglians,

Still holding on to the brightness here. But, yep, I can see from the satellite it's not going to last. Currently bang on 11°C.

First signs of condensation on the inside of a couple of windows when I got up this morning. Mid-September really is incredibly early for that. (And the week before last, we were knocking on the door of 30° at one point. Amazing stuff.)

Have a great Tuesday, folks. Pretty busy here today, so need to log off already.

Lee

Transcript of Sussex police 999 call yesterday evening:

Caller:  Is that the police?  It's an emergency!  I think I'm being followed

Operator:  I see sir.  Who is following you?  Are they known to you?

Caller:  I don't know who it is, it's a bloke in a Saab.  Got its roof down even though it's freezing. He's been on my tail for a few miles now and keeps going on about my size.  Please help me

Operator:  What's your location?

Caller: About 2000 feet up.  Come quickly!

Operator:  Are you in a hot air balloon?

Caller:  No you fool.  I'm a cloud!

Operator: (line goes dead)
