No doubt a prequel for the forthcoming winter CC.

Better not be. Only the mother of all snowfalls could atone for the monotony we've had to endure for the best part of 2 years now in this neck of the woods. And I'm talking blizzards, 2 metre drifts - the lot!

Well it's still early and don't want to sound pessimistic, but the strike detectors online seem to show lightning become less frequent (unless you are in parts of France).

Not sure what to expect to be honest - updated met office rainfall forecast seems to show it becoming less intense and breaking up earlier to what it was showing yesterday.

However, there may be some more interest for SE parts this afternoon from anything that makes it across the channel?

Think I'll leave this one to the experts but a spell of heavy rain is what I am expecting...

ermm why do we live here again?

Actually no idea. 2 or 3 distant rumbles of thunder all summer and the same last year. Pathetic.

The rain has arrived but it's only moderate, it doesn't look like lasting that long going by the radar, i can't see that 4mm will fall here.

There was a 30 minute thunderstorm between 10:20 and 10:50. There was torrential rain and 6 flashes of lightning 8 miles E, ENE and NE of, here.

To be honest main electrical acitivty is over N France now, but moving in the direction of the SE corner of England. Just depends on whether it survives the dreaded storm graveyard (English Channel)

Still some sferics here and there moving with the main bulk of rain though.

Thats all we got last year where I am - smack bang in the middle of it all (you would think...)

It all went to the the west first, then the east, then lastly to the south!

A gap opening up on the front that will have Sheffield written on it specially.  More seriously everything seems to be generally quietening down so it could well be a rain watch more than anything.

It's just spitting here now, i didn't expect the brunt of it but i expected a bit more than what's actually fallen.  It has been raining for about 45 mins, with about 15 mins of it being moderate. 2.8mm in total, we had more rain from a few light showers yesterday, what a let down!

Less intense now and splitting.  Looks like some energy transferred down the front into France then dissipated a bit.  Somerset getting a pasting though.

Lightning detected moving into S Wales now. Rain just about to move in here but to be honest....doesn't look like lasting long..? Intensity of it is even starting to decrease overall.

As is often the case in southerly plume situations convection is rooted above a stable boundary layer - i.e. elevated - so storms aren't so affected by sea surface temperatures - though they are at the warmest at this time of year anyways.

Some really heavy downpours here in Falmouth this morning. Think I have heard a few very distant rumbles that occupied the storms just SE of here this morning which went somewhere near St Austell way probably. Certainly been quite a lot of rain here today. Hopefully will brighten up soon as the sun hasnt appeared since last Friday!!!!

Should be interesting to see how forcing and orographic lift plays it's part here in the Pennines, i'm looking out more for PPN totals and anything else such as lightning or SLWs is just a bonus for today. Beeb have also been keen to situ a squall-front out in the Irish Sea for this afternoon.

Well, it looks like that SW Wales is in for a treat, this afternoon. A lot of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms for them.
