out of curiosty I did a google translate into latin for the phrase 'Widespread thunderstorms from the continent with shed loads of lightning'

It came up with "Dago Plumeus epicus failus"

Well, is that it? That so called 'torrential, thundery rain' front moved through and I can actually say that I've seen heavier North Sea drizzle...

Looks like some Kent clippers getting going now in NW France with sferics, keeping my eye on that big cluster further west though.

Only a tiddler to start, but almost right on cue for timing and I'm sure there's more in the bag:

Some very bright echos across Northern France and a big blob of color to the west of the Brest Peninsula. Most of England look to be hit by one of these areas this evening and tonight, but will it arrive as thunderstorms or just moderate to heavy rainfall?

Yes I have seen this a lot with the NAE this year, it always slows down the movement of any precipitation which is moving north however in reality it moves much faster. Here in Cardiff I was expecting near 8 hours of rainfall however only 4hours of rain fell because the front moved north faster than expected. Although the rain that did fell was very heavy here.

This is so dissapointing!

I have given up on this year now and really am not expecting anything majour till at least sometime next year. It is also irritating that we are not getting any proper wet and windy spells either.

William looks to be the luckiest person on the forumn this year for thunder.

Those showers are developing and passing to the North East. The area of rain to the South West is moving North-ish. I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I might start putting my home town in to every post i make, see if the winds of luck can change. Posted ImagePosted Image

Yeah, to be honest, it is the best year of thunderstorms since 2006, here. But, even though there has been quite a few thunderstorms, only 2 have been intense.

Anyone who is in SW Cornwall, get ready for some heavy and thundery rain.

Yes it has. I hate it when that happens. I suddenly feel as if everything just de-intensified at once. Posted Image

Maybe theirs is like the Maginot line... defective.

Or maybe that they have had so many powerful storms this year that it's took the shield down, that's why ours is still up!Posted Image
