Wow....torrential rain...lightning and a massive clap of thunder!

Wind very strong at times...take care out there...

My lightning detector has been picking up a lot of that lightning, at a range of 12 - 24 miles, no thunder here though but a crazy downpour. 73mm/hr rate and 4.4mm in the last 15 minutes. Posted Image

Hearing deep booming thunder from the W/SW over the last 10 minutes and hoping it maintains intensity overhead as there is little chance of seeing lightning very far away due to so much heavy rain and murk.

That's one massive mass of showers/storms in and around Hampshire.

There was just a very intense downpour with gale force winds. A massive limb fell down off one of our red maple trees. I was coming back from Sidmouth at the time and saw 3 flashes of lightning. It was incredible, here. Posted Image

All Time Highest Wind Gust: 49 mph 20/10/2013 12:46.

Wow mate that is a pretty high wind gust!Posted Image

I have only managed 45mph over the last 2 years I have had a weather station.

Anyway heavy rain here now and there have been at least 6 close to medium range rumbles of thunder so far. The first three I didn't see but there were two were I saw the flashes directly overhead. I was eating some soup for lunch when I saw it out of the kitchen window.Posted Image

Latest NW-ATD map shows where the strikes currently are, mainly over Hampshire but also recently over South Wiltshire stretching down into South East Devon and Dorset. It's slowly clearing from these areas now though;

Absolutely horrendous squall just sweeping through Bognor at the moment. It was relatively windy then the rain started, fortunately just as I finished moving the lawn. Then the rain and wind went totally mad!! I was expecting a tornado here also but thankfully after 5 minutes it is just back to torrential rain. The worst squall I have seen here for many, many years and I have seen a good few!

CHIMET showing a gust up to 47knot/54mph

I have only managed 45mph over the last 2 years I have had a weather station.

It certainly was, though as usual, I wasn't here to see it. But, I was surprised to see some damage around. Most of our trees in the garden are very strong. Though, I have seen 47 mph with my own eyes before, here. Posted Image

Well, 45 mph is still very strong and can cause damage and for Somerset, that is very strong especially for in the past 2 years.

If you had 47mph before then I would say that this time around there is probably damage because of there being leaves on the trees producing more drag.

Gone very dark here with on/off sporadic pulses of rainfall, not too heavy though.

Wind has picked up however. This should be an ongoing trend through the rest of the day too according to the forecasts, with gales along some coastal areas.

No, the 47 mph gust was on 22/11/2012, so a long time ago. But, that was winter. So, there was minimal damage.

Yes, we had 8.4mm this morning and then a further 10.7mm this afternoon in the big downpour.

I would imagine places in Hampshire had some big totals today.

3.5mm to 09.00 GMT and a further 6.5mm to dark.  Got off rather lightly I'm thinking!

16mm from today's downpours which is getting October towards being the wettest month for a long time and this week looks, well, frankly horrendous judging by the Countryfile forecast and from the point of view of somebody who works outside.

I have got pretty lucky recently but that luck looks set to end, well it probably already has with the current dry slot coming overnight!

Any chance the rain could even hold off until mid morning tomorrow?

I got about 12.5mm of rain here for the whole day but I don't think it is exposed enouph for perfect accurate readings.
