I love how now nobody is talking about the northerly on the model thread, just FI and this elusive easterly. And they say there isn't a southern bias in there? Huh! I don't care anyway, the uppers are  still looking amazing, and if anything they seem to undercut the cold front a  little bit more on the 0Z, and still showing a lot of precipitation post front.

This illustrates my point rea the 0Z.

Same for here also show an 81% chance of snow between 0600-1500 even up to midnight uppers still around -7

So yes very short and sweet but a few flakes of snow will be very nice

Yes, I'm just wondering if there'll be enough precipitation around on Friday afternoon though as the pressure rises. I think Thursday night looks interesting though.

Also a few hundred J/kG of SBCAPE around on thursday night.

This cold 'snap' is being blown way out of proportion. It's just an average 24 hour window of cold.

Unless you live in the SW of the region, you've not got much chance of snow unless that colder air undercuts the cold front much quicker, which isn't likely. It'll be cold yes, but only very briefly and it won't be particularly snowy.

Way too much hype surrounding this. Had to be said. Probably won't even drop below freezing here due to extensive cloud cover.

........blown way out of proportion..........................

I think given the latest GFS it's Thursday that's got the most interesting weather forecast for the forseeable future....................

Hahah, yeah it's the winds that'll be exciting! The 528dm doesn't even touch most of our region, so really it's a cold rain event. Unless you've got some decent elevation of course.

Been working away all day and not had chance to look at the posts or models.

Is this weekends cold still on or as the final nail been hammered into the northerly coffin?

Its over Ian, with next week looking progressively milder with a deep PV to the NW.

don't know what everyone is moaning about, uppers are still very good and I still don't think thicknesses play that much of a part at the moment, I would've said the lack of marginality is what makes this northerly interesting.

I'm happy.

U would say that! got to remain optimistic, the high will be modelled far enough north, to be over us for inversion cold, the best possible setup for Xmas this year, if we lucky frost and fog

Well, every cloud and all that; at least we'll save some money on the heating bills.Anyway still many weeks of false dawns to go before spring when no doubt, winter will set in again.

Nowcasting is the only way forward. Do not look at computer generated forecasts.
