Only had one thunder storm this winter so far here, had three over the summer two of which lasted for a few hours. Saw plenty of flashes in the channel though after this winters storm.

 

You're in prime position to catch summer storms coming up from France and clipping Kent. One thing that I miss not living in Ashford, as last summer there were more storms than there were here in London, some of them were corkers by all accounts.

Think I had just one day with storms last year, but did get 3 in that one day.

Just watching the radar and the colours seem to indicate the rainfall amounts are dropping as they make landfall

 

 

 losing intensity as it leaves water, 

Was just seeing the funny side of the bit "as it leaves water" ha ha!  but yes the band was heavier further west and less so this side. But still expect the unstable air to produce some interest over this way later!

Are the winds over the next day or two going to be as damaging as those we have recently had - trying to see if there are any updates on the travel sites but nothing seems to be showing for our area at the moment -wonder if this is likely to change 

40-50mph I'd expect as widespread gales (gusts). possibly a bit higher in heavy shws/stms

40-50mph I'd expect as widespread gales (gusts). possibly a bit higher in heavy shws/stms

40-50mph gusts would be called a strong to near gale force wind based on the mean winds. No real damage would be caused by these winds to proper structures or typical trees but some unusually weak branches or trees could be damaged or uprooted.

It is the "Dry" part that I have been looking forward too, as I am sure a great many others have been also.

Yes indeed, talking of rain, like earlier today the rain band fizzled out just now as it got here, few spots and just checked the radar and its gone (the rain, not the radar).

I was back last week but it just didn't seem normal.... oh well, holiday in Easter to look forward to!
