This zone here is always awful for heavy rain/storms. Every time something comes from the West, it breaks up in that zone while the North and South has a field day. WHY?!

You can expand that zone to include Braintree. They always pass to the south of Braintree!!!

I wouldn't quite say it's that bad here tbh... But it could be an effect of the Chilterns?

It's very strange, even with normal bands of rain, they seem to fragment and split when they hit North Hertfordshire.

Well that lightning and thunder amidst the heavy rain came as a surprise; will keep an eye and ear out for more as the evening progresses, preferably not during dog walk time. On the subject of which, so sorry for your loss Shotski, you have lost a member of your family.

Kingston riverside today was almost overflowing at the banks in places, so could do without any more rain now.

Looks like this current band of heavy rain should stop here by 21:00 (ish) judging by the speed and direcion on the radar.

Seems calm here, but Southern man just called from Reedham and it is blowing a gale out there, i could hear it down the line, he says they are going to raise the flood defence as the river is very high.

I remember during the Olympics last year was in LColney, sitting in the garden in brilliant warm sunshine while just down the road the marathon was in pouring rain.

Just stepped into the kitchen and looked out the window and can just see the moon now, bit fuzzy behind the fast moving clouds mind.

Just started raining here as I put the bins out

I decided not to put mine out till the morning as most of the ones out here have taken off down the road.

Blimey, not even done the washing up yet, was too busy on here, watching countryfile and ironing (may save it for tomorrow night as I am stopping in and away from the pub for a while), and it is only me so not like it is a lot to do.

EA have just rung to say expect very heavy rain between 4am and 9am which could cause problems for smaller "flash" watercourses like mine.

Just been out to warn all the neighbours - it's extremely wet out there!
