Southernman just called, he is in the next road fixing the car, he says it isn't hail, just very hard rain, and its very very windy and it just suddenly started out of nowhere, so it must be one of those squalls coming through.

Heavy rain and freak gusts here, my gates just come flying open even though it was locked?!

Not seen any hail or heard lightening yet though!

Epic downpour here in Brighton, couldn't see more than a few feet out the window. Raining steadily now, felt quite warm when I went outside before the downpour.

It already has.. Mum said on her way to Walton in Chertsey it had flooded all the restaurants along the river and also the lower flats and houses along the road.. She had to drive through flood water and says she will probs have to get back home another way..

Just awful. I hope at the very least that everyone affected is safe.

It was black here in Southwark and hammered it down for a short while. Now seems to be brightining up a little....

Currently hiding in the Shell petrol station on the A299, can see the clearer weather not far from here so scoffing a sandwich while waiting.

Strange yellow thing in the sky over London. Any ideas? Sky has gone blue as well. Seems to ring a bell but memory not what it once was

Hmmmmm! I'm pretty sure it's something called 'The Sun' and it is often seen in blue sky. Strange. :D

Updated weather warning from the Met Office:

Yellow warning of Rain

post-6667-0-70350100-1389084123_thumb.jp

Bracknell Forest, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, Greater London, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Medway, Oxfordshire, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton, Surrey, West Berkshire, West Sussex, Windsor and Maidenhead, Wokingham, Essex, Southend-on-Sea, Thurrock

Issued at:
1208 on Tue 7 Jan 2014

Valid from:
1100 on Tue 7 Jan 2014

Valid to:
0600 on Wed 8 Jan 2014

Heavy showers will become less frequent for a time through Tuesday afternoon but more prolonged rain is likely to affect some southeastern counties of England overnight into the early hours of Wednesday.

This is an update of the warning first issued on Monday.

The public should be aware of the risk of further localised flooding, especially in areas which have been affected in recent days.

The band of heavy showers which crossed the south during Tuesday morning will be succeeded by more scattered showers, still with the odd heavy one. Rain is expected to return to parts of the region overnight but at present seems more likely to affect areas southeast of a line from the Isle of Wight to the Thames estuary. 10 to 20 mm of rain may fall in some parts of this area, with a lower risk that counties further to the northwest might also be affected.

I guess we all knew this was coming, but the perceived reassurance of seeing this latest Met O update is not a lovely thing....

Interesting to see whether the rain tonight affects such a large swathe of the SE - looks to me like the southern coastal fringes/east kent could get a downpour or 2

Agreed, but I thought the forecast looked worse yesterday evening, so a slight glimmer. Posted Image

It also appears (at this point) that we might not suffer so much from tomorrow night's system, so hopefully we can just grin and bear it, with little further issue for the moment.
