Thinking of the solar eclipses that I have seen or caught glimpses of

1994: no

1996: yes

1999: yes

2003: yes

2005: no

2006: yes

2008: yes

2011: no

2015:?

Apart from 1999 when i have had proper solar glasses i have always used colour/black and white -ve photo strips. Probably rather stupid thing to do. 5 of them one over the other does the trick. My current contract at a office with no windows , I'm going out for extended break. Will be near Rugby

Cant wait for tomorrow morning. So exciting isnt it! Looks like myself in Yorkshire could do OK for this! I really hope everyone gets some cloud breaks though and is able to view :)

Ive been all over looking for glasses and it seems no shop in Sheffield has decided to cash in on this lol, so I hope the newspaper freebies are true in the morning!!

Just watching Stargazing Live, good stuff! :D   :good:

There is a two hour window here when sunny intervals are predicted, unfortunately it has moved from 8:00 until 10:00 to 11:00 till 13:00 this evening!
Cloud is shown as white before that so there will very likely be some glimpses, and timings might shift slightly again yet.

How about this for a total eclipse for the British Isles, look how much is in the totality path...shame it won't be until 5th May 2600!SEatlas2581.GIF

Good luck to anyone alive to see it, they won't be born yet for at least 500 years!

something like this by then I would imagine ....

D3100 and the S1730 both charged and ready. Using a UV filter on the D3100 for direct photography of the Sun as it's a common myth that the Sun burns out the lens, it certainly would do on old-film cameras but modern DSLR/SLR technology is designed to withstand this in mind. Take for example all the thousands of pictures taken out there of sunsets and sunrises with no problem whatsoever.

The s1730 will be facing north to capture anything of the shadow moving left to right, with a 60min recording time i'm hoping to get something from this visually noticeable.

finally I got the trusty Eclipse glasses ordered from 2 weeks ago, along with a improvised pin-hole paper and card. Fingers crossed for the weather now.

Tried to find out some links as to how far the moon is from earth,i think it is a lot closer at present Snowy so the moon looks bigger, plus the earth is still tilted away from the sun at this time of the year

Edit:closer than the normal, check this link then go to the live^

It's a new moon but closer than average. They still call it (or some do) a supermoon, even though we cannot see the lit side.

Lucky we don't have LP in charge, or something like last Winters storms? It would have caused alot of problems at high tide!

Some misty low cloud but there is bluesy so I'm hopeful.

Vis satellite at 08:20, i've drawn in the best places for viewing over the next few hours, with the high cloud to the north starting to dissipate ahead of the front as the high-ridge tries to nudge it's way ahead of the front. Overcast skies here starting to thin and break already, with the front not due to start coming over until 11.30.
