Makes a change :-)  you, JP and others are usually there before me.

Really close in time terms, it's almost as though each quake releases strain at one point just for it to transfer to another place and build and release there.

I did notice that they are working their way closer to the surface

There seems to be a lot happening around the 7-8km depth. Is that the depth were the feed of Magma is finding the easiest route into a chamber?

I think you are right John - the IMO seem to upgrade them once they have made their assessments.

viewing cams will be tricky due to the weather until early wednesday according to the above :(

Also, with the wind coming strong from the northeast it means that the plume will be blown away from the webcam and it may look rather unimpressive (when there is any view that is).

IMO has just updated and it is a M5 earthquake.

Several of the southerly based quakes around the caldera seem to be shallower than the east and northeast based ones.

As JP said earlier, the M3+ certainly are not slowing in frequency or strength.

Guys,

The last 5 recorded quakes are interesting

4 of them are small and below 1km from the surface.

The other one was the biggy (a 5) sitauated quite shallow about 2 kim from the surface.

They seem to be getting gradually shallower. Could the very small ones (one at 0.3) be the ice starting to melt?

5 October 2014 19:00 - from geoscientist on duty

A total of 115 earthquakes have been located today. Additionally, some data has not been processed and the total number will increase. Of the located quakes 21 are larger than magnitude 3. The largest quake of magnitude 5.0 occurred at 16:59; another of magnitude 4.8 at 03:55; and magnitude 4.7 at 11:14.

Most of the seismic activity is in the Bárðarbunga caldera rim, and some activity at the northern end og the dike intrusion and also close to Herðubreiðartögl.

Furthermore, 20 quakes were located offshore several kilometers southwest from Kópasker. The largest of these of magnitude 3.4 occurred at 09:34.

The eruption is currently not visible on webcams due to clouds.
