Hi guys,h

the last hour has seen some sort of a view on the webcams.

It seems as though it could have been snow on the lenses preventing visiblilty.

About an hour ago it had cleared on both cams with low cloud about. Then snow appeared to be falling on the lense. The visibilty dissappeared on cam2 , but cam 1 still retained some vis. More recently it has started to melt on the webcam1 and you can see clearly again with water running across the lense.

Having seen this view though one thing did strike me as to how much the hill in the foreground (snow covered) is obscuring the wider further out view. Could this be due to the sinking going on,or are these cameras too far away to be affected.?

a few days back but interesting read

hi midlands

the cameras are ok for viewing but the weather is a pain at present

re the sinking question

very hard to say

i think we need to see more images from a flyover to get a better idea

Are you sure it is not just the depth of snow changing the perspective? Beautiful thick cover of snow on Kverkfjoll today.

Afternoon Bungabuddies :D

yey, http://www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/bardarbunga

@ MIA,the Mila cams are 20 km away from the fisure eruption and 60 km from Bardabunga,so i don't think there will be any subsidence there

this is a snapshot @ the fisure site from the Vaðöldu webcam pointing West,

this looks closer to the fisure than the Mila cams and further down the hill too,i have been trying to find a live feed but no success

only @ this site with updated stills every minute.

I wonder how it compares to Laki or Kilauea which has been erupting 30 years plus.

JP Karyo, AS,

Thanks for the info. I had to pop out after posting above.

With the online cams 60 kilms away and the fissure 20kilms, there is no way it can be a drop!!!!.

It must be something to do with the snow level.

Also I have just looked and there. are still some nice shots of the still very active fissure

It was interesting just watching the clearance appearing and then the snow falling and starting to melt and allowing the apparition to show through. Very awe inspiring.

It looks awesome! This eruption is not showing any signs of stopping!

Its still erupting now. :shok:

It there any chance of it disrupting the European airspace?

Not unless Barda itself erupts.

Back everyone, had to do a few errands :D

absolutely stunning viewing tonight on the cams, that has been a rock solid eruption from start to the present day with no sign of letting up

also i would just like to say that i never new anything about volcanology until i came across this thread,so i give a big thankyou to JP and karyo et all for all the info/data/pics/video and links that they have provided throughout into this thead, and i am glad that i did because this is one of the most fascinating things i have witnessed in my lifetime, this is something that you do not see everyday in life

this eruption has been going on for over a month now,how long it will last is anyone's guess, but if the worst case scenario happens i hope it is not too disasterous

looking @ the gps, there still is a slow decline of the caldera(long turm) so steady as she goes, now if the caldera carries on her slow decent without any sudden BIG drops she could safely stop @ the bottom without any eruption,note-(i dont know this but only a theory of mine)

post-16960-0-13413600-1413762723_thumb.p

also there is something that i asked earlier in the thread about a sudden drop in this chart which i am unfamiliar with(still lurning) :D

post-16960-0-45138200-1413763004_thumb.g

i understand about the upticks in these charts, but know nothing about this

thanks.

P.S not much checked data from IMO in the last few days either, maybe they will get there skates on in the morning.

Updated information 19 October 2014 - the extent of the lava

The Institute of Earth Sciences has issued a new map of the lava extent, based on radar images from today's surveillance flight by the Icelandic Coast Guard. The total extent of the lavas is now 60.7 km2 (60.3 km2 + 0.4 km2). A considerable lobe has protruded southwards but also a small one to the north; see enlarged map.
