Still a bit of snow lying around in the northern Pennines (Yorkshire/Durham border) today despite the temperature.  As my wife's grandma used to say: "if there's snow on the floor there's bound to be more".  Whatever that was supposed to mean.

Great charts ey Barry. Things still looking good tonight I think :) Even more so, I presume those max's are city centre temps, same as BBC weather ones? Most of us live higher and/or cooler so yes im hopefull we'll see some snow! :D:cold:

This is why ill never move lower haha, I can never live on low ground!

How high is Batley? If the pattern works out as predicted, id hope for snow at all levels eventualy, once the real cold air has dug in! Fingers crossed!

I think I'm in the highest part of the town at 130m, it's about 70 in the town center!

Yeah I'm hoping so, I've put £50 at 5/1 on snow at Leeds Airport (200m) haha :)

I was just thinking to myself tonight that I should put a bet on lol, we're lucky in the know on here, perhaps the bookies wont have cottoned on yet?

It has been raining all day here (and all night most likely), and the streams are overflowing.

Wouldn't be shocked if there isn't flooding in the rivers down stream, as its one of the worst days of rainfall we have had here and we have had some horrendous ones before.

Hi all I don't usually post on other regionals but you ought to keep tuned for the 27t/28th of December coinciding with very high tide? - this fellow forumite raises the concern. (Nicked from MOD thread)

The GFS PARA models a quite extraordinarily severe event for 27th/28th, combined with a spring tide. We must hope for the sake of the north-east and  east coast that this downgrades.

Im sure it could be quite wild along the coast but i would LOVE for the GFS(P) 12z tonight to verify! Lots of snow and gales and then it keeps it cold for 3-4 days after so what we get we'd most likely keep. Would be awesome to witness a proper winter storm and then see laying snow for a few days. Thats been too long now!!

Blizzards was not on my agenda, I fear for your coastline much land may be lost to the sea...!

Are we going to see a decent cold spell this winter ? Or even snow..?

Well no one can honestly answer that but i am just starting to lose a bit of faith right now. It all sounded and looked so good with lots of positive signals ready for winter but now weve got through month 1 of winter and seen nothing.

There is no sign of a decent cold spell at all at the moment, and we really need some of these background signals that have been talked about to start having an affect and doing their job!

Its true that we see most of our cold and snow in Jan and Feb so we just need to hope things fall into place :)

Agreed, looking on met office site, its showing temps only 5c or so and a frost which should set in quick. It will be nice to at least feel cold air and see a frost. It will feel festive at least :)

Much better than 12c mild mush we've had over the past few years!

Evening all, well after doing the pre-xmas family visit for the last 4 days, i was hoping to come back on here and find something snowy in the forecast, but alass no such luck, with the first third of winter nearly over the chances of a second snowless winter increase

Yes its nice UKMO and ECM are now agreeing, we need to make sure we get the slider to improve the snow chances!

BBC weather website is poor though for Sheffield, Not a mention of snow and temps Saturday of 6c :(
