There are still patchy remains of snow round here in grassy areas (and on some cars too). Otherwise it's a very icy picture due to the thawed snow simply refreezing, and it's quite treacherous underfoot on many pavements. Yesterday's frost was the thickest I've seen for a good while and the night-time sparkle is magnificent.

For my location we've done very well to hold on to such wintriness as long as we have given the current synoptics are nothing special. Just a shame about the longer range output, which is very disappointing again. Those of us who have had snow recently have been lucky, because for the winter as a whole we keep getting dealt rubbish cards despite favourable background conditions.

Partly cloudy overnight and because of that, the temperature has not fallen too low.

Currently -0.9c.

I was out and about for much of yesterday and it's a long while since I saw conditions so good.

Excellent visibility and with a snow line around here at about 230m the hills are looking stunning against the green lower down.

It's just a shame that milder weather is going to change all of that within a couple of days although falling during a holiday period does give chances to go out and make the most of it.

After another frosty start and fairly clear, it clouded over and is now quite foggy at the bottom of the Manchester basin. Visibility in Trafford Park less than 200m.

Morning all

looking through the charts this morning, not very inspiring to say

the least, the next 7-10 days brings a mix of TM and PM air masse

the latter probably bringing wintry weather over high ground.

New year's day looks like been very mild with temperature s

possibly upto 11c.

Again this winter looks like a hard slog to anythink remotely cold,

saying that this week has bought snow and frost to the region,

which is a huge improvement on last year

my positive thought is the way the strat is behaving the charts

could change very quickly, however I would prefer not to have to

wait another two weeks for it to materialise, all said and done

though its only the weather and we can do absolutely nothing

to change it.

a few days break for me.

have a very happy new year and stay safe

Must say I have quite enjoyed this winter so far.

Snow ✅

Hail✅

Frost✅

Sun✅

All this mixed inbetween milder wet conditions. A bit of everything.

Wouldn't mind if the next two months are like December. Obv I'd prefer my snow to stick this time around but still been anenoyable month for weather for me!

Yes we've already had far more 'wintry' type weather compared to any stage last winter. The current spell is excellent for those who like cold frosty crisp weather and have the time to make the most of it - good timing coming during the Christmas season, giving a very seasonal feel to things.

Looking ahead - we tend to see our coldest conditions of the season set in around middle of January lasting well into February, so plenty of time yet, and there are very positive signals for a change of fortune as we hit middle of January - yes the next couple of weeks don't look too inspiring.

Back to the hear and now, a wonderful sparkling cold night last night think temps got down to -5 degrees, coldest night of the season so far. Temperatures are really struggling at the moment, hard frost lingering in shaded parts under clear skies. Current temp is still below freezing only just at -0.2 degrees, however suspect we will just miss out on an ice day.... won't be far off as temps may well rise overnight ironically due to cloud cover, last one we had was March 11th 2013 (very late in season).

After a foggy, murky morning the sun has finally put an appearance in and unfortunately a bit of snow melt is taking place.

Currently 2c.

2.3C with still around an inch of snow on the grass and a harsh frost. Interestingly, surrounding areas are at 6-7C?! No idea what's going on there.

This was taken an hour ago:

I went to Snowdonia yesterday, surprisingly, there's more snow in Runcorn than there was half way up the mountain at around 600M. The peaks looked caped in snow though!

Coming across from charlesworth across the hilly road to glossop thick fog and snow made feel very wintry....people sledding down the snowladden fields making the most of what is left.... Citrus lamb on hob, beer open, fire on....

You just have to hope the cloud stays away until midnight, or else it may push the temperature above freezing, just when you think you've done it. Had that happen to me before. :)

Yep hadn't thought of that ..still -0.4c

Not an official ice day :p temp has to stay at -0.1C or below all day :p

Current temp -2.4 degrees, max so far -0.3 degrees so still on course for an ice day. However, I'm not sure what constitutes and ice day in terms of time, does it have to stay at or below -0.1 degrees between 09:00 and 09:00 for a full 24 hours or 0:00 - 0:00, I think it is the former, if so, we have a long while to go yet and cloud cover and a strengthening wind could easily nudge temps above freezing overnight.

Anyhow certainly the coldest 'day' since March 11th 2013 here. Thick white frost lingering in shaded spots.
