Quite a few Flood Alerts issued by SEPA now, mainly for the possibility of coastal flooding due to the winds at high tides. Still not a cloud in the sky here at the moment and only a gentle breeze. Funny to think I'm expecting to wake up to it blowing a hoolie tomorrow morning.

Finally got my weather station up outside this afternoon. Tried to make it as secure as possible but fully expect it to be scattered about the garden tomorrow morning. If it can survive tonight it can survive anything.

It's reading a temp of 4.4 and dew point of 1.3 which seems about right. Can I ask people what you are getting for your wind readings. At the moment it is at 2.2mph with gust of 5.4 mph. Clearly its not windy outside yet but I thought it was slightly more breezy than that

Looks like I'm going to get in home and batten down the hatches in the nick of time before this beast hits. Leavin work soon.

Afternoon folks from an extremely calm Isle of Skye! We had some rather beefy hail showers early this morning, but it has calmed down considerably since the. temp currently 0.8c, wind chill -6c, pressure 1004mb, wind speed 10.5mph. I know it'll get a helluva lot worse overnight, but I can only echo what others have said, please everyone, do take care and don't go out if you can avoid it!

stop it CMD you are getting my hopes up....that was my first year in work and we got the day off..... snow in Dundee was literally above my knees and Dundee was cut off with the motorways closed....i recall there being no newspapers or milk at the local shop as no deliveries could get through..... i also remember walking my girlfriend over to my house early afternoon thinking wow looks a little snowy in that sky and the first flakes started late afternoon and continued for about 24 hours pretty much......that was in the dates before internet or me taking an interest in weather forecasts so was one of those brilliant surprise storms.....on the day off work we actually sledged into town and had lunch in front of a coal fire in Tally Ho's pub and i remember the thaw starting that late afternoon and being depressed at it. The thaw was so rapid i caused the great floods in Perth and indeed my work in Dundee was actually flooded resulting in me having to do a months worth of work again re inputting data as the back up tapes were destroyed and a months worth of work lost......was not quite so happy with the snow at that point :)

One of the only times pre 2010 that I can remember getting sent home from work because of snow.

Even deeper up in Highland Perthshire with between 18 inches and two feet of snow lying. When that melted quickly from lower ground late in the week it resulted in Perth being deluged with floods.

13mph at the moment here, it does seem eerily calm at the moment, although this is an expected lull, things not really kicking off again until around 9pm:

After that all of Scotland is looking at the potential for gusts in excess of 60 mph, potentially up to 100 mph for many. Latest GFS P looks slightly less severe early doors for the central belt but worryingly more severe around rush hour:

I suspect the Forth and Tay Bridges may well be closed for a time tomorrow morning.

I'm going to take a punt at Skye and Kessock being closed as well? :D

A bit long but may be of interest to those from the Perth area. An analysis of the January 1993 flooding and the measures subsequently taken to combat future floods. I also remember 100 mph winds closing the Tay bridge twice in a week and earlier in the month the Braer disaster came in yet another major storm.

With 90-100mph gusts? Probably a decent chance

Hah! Bear Scotland closes Skye Bridge at the merest puff these days! It's just a case of when rather than if.

The peak will be early morning, the worst of round one will be clear from you by about 6am.

wind starting to pick up, just back from dug walk, and the chill in that wind will cut you in half..  :cold:

Nowt more than a breeze here, but very chilly. I'm currently stewing in a house which isn't actually that warm, as also just back from walking MrsC's mutts.

Edit: Oops, that was meant to go in with the first post. I don't know where to start with posting charts tonight, it's verging on weather porn in chartworld.

Snow sandwiches for lunch on Saturday anyone?

Snow showers through the day resulting in a cheeky wee dusting, accompanied by a bitterly cold breeze

Seems the wind is stealing the winter headlines again though (sigh).... don't think there will be any trampolines blown past my window, maybe some some sheep

Stay safe Kilties
