Lovely sunny start, and nice and crisp, finally feels like november, I wonder for how long though.

Sunday might feel a tad milder again out of the breeze, certainly night temps will be up due to cloud cover.. Not looking forward to tomorrow rain fest :(

Feels much cooler out there today. Have seen sleet reports from people in Ireland and Northern England.

Sunny first thing here - cloudy, chilly and blustery now with short-lived bursts of rain as we seem to be at the northern edge of the rain (is it a shortwave trough?)

Anyone having wild weather? Just had a heavy shower and the temperature dropped 4c very quickly to 7.9c and the gusts of wind sent people's Wheelie bins sliding into the road.

It was pretty blustery earlier as the shortwave(?) came through, but it's merely breezy now.

Well the squall line didn't deliver much at all here, just an hour of light rain between two prolonged sunny periods this morning and now. It is much cooler out there now compared to recent weeks.

Was it a squall line/upper trough or a shortwave feature, Matt?

The Squall Line was very impressive where I am the sky went very dark and ominous and then it absolutely belted down with hailstones too - the wind really whipped up albeit it was short-lasting :D once that cleared it felt like winter had arrived with that windchill.

Hmm

There is certainly a wave feature on that system as shown by this mornings GFS

9-515UK.GIF?

Add to that a weak theta plume which also was present across the south of England at the time

9-100UK.GIF?

More pronounced the further south you go, you can pretty much draw the front onto that chart as it passes through the middle of that kink. Ultimately giving the instability to create convection along the frontal system and hence the risk of severe weather.

So yeah it was a shortwave feature which created the instability to form a line of heavy rain and gusty winds, with the associated risk of hail etc...

Bit of everything today. Been very blustery today with some heavy, squally but brief showers. Between the showers we had some lovely convective cloudscapes. Feeling chilly  :cold: .

Cheers Matt - I hasten to add that I wasn't arguing.  I genuinely wondered which it was. :D

When I got to kent and canterbury hospital, the nurse there said is it cold out, looked like there was some sleet in the rain earlier. Didn't notice any in dover though.

Not that I want to see it, but I'm waiting on the usual back tracking of the models.

Been here so many times before to see it all go "Pete Tonge".

Cloudy start on what looks to be a rather grotty weekend, today looking the wettest with Sunday being a mild gloom-fest.

It's Saturday - I'm off work and it's set to pi** down the whole day.

How boring! How predictable! Back to the mild crap that we've had to endure constantly

No risk of meltdown currently, ECM back tracked this morning to a 12hr toppler giving only cold weather for the north.

GEM on its own this morning. I know where I'd put my money!!

Chilly 7.4C and grey start, but hopefully will stay dry long enough for me to get the chain saw out and chop up the Euro High, sorry logs, in readiness for the first proper cold shot of the season next weekend! Good on you Daniel for sticking to your thoughts on this one.

I didn't see the previous run, but ECM shows a change from generally mild to generally cold, to me, at about day 6. Potential there IMHO... :)
