WOW my heart just skipped a beat there was a deafening explosion sound as if something had become pulverised followed by a blinding illumination of Lightning this was less than 1/4 of a mile away.

That's some strange lightning if you heard the bang before you saw the flash!

Not sure if the heavier rain to the south of Norfolk will arrive - looks like it's more inclined to pivot into the N. Sea, perhaps grazing the far east.

Just heard really loud distant thunder, such a low frequency I wasn't quite sure but wow

Strange thing is I saw the lightning to this but didn't hear the thunder at all.

Funnel cloud reported near Hethel on Look East. The rain has been moderately steady so far, very useful for the garden and grazing but I bet some farmers are cursing right now!

Don't they always? :D

Does anyone know a good website for checking the actual rainfall totals at various locations please? The Met Off site seems very laborious and anyway it only gives you the 24 hour total from 21.00 to 21.00.

Measured from when it started raining Friday morning to this morning, there was 26.7mm (just over an inch) here. It's dry but cool, grey and windy here at the moment and 12.6C.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page and use the map to click on various MetO stations - http://www.weathercast.co.uk/world-weather/weather-stations/obsid/99127.html Many of them record hourly rainfall (e.g. "00:00 - 2.5mm" means 2.5mm fell between 23:00 and 00:00 BST).

I recorded 22.5mm of rain yesterday - the single wettest calendar day since my records began in Sept 2013. Not even the wet winter of 2013-14 saw such a wet day!

My previous records were 19.8mm (Sept 2014) and 18.0mm (July 2014) - both of those were due to very intense but short-lived storms though.

Official Met Office stations near me had 28.2mm (Writtle) and 21.8mm (Andrewsfield).

^ h2005 and Harps - thank you very much.

Just walked the dogs and the strong wind and cool temp (14.1C) made it feel quite autumnal. Got home and Mrs Blessed is baking cakes with the oven blasting. Lovely!

Nice walk with the dogs over the field, then for a run! Surprised how dry everything is already - with those crazy rainfall predictions from the GFS yesterday I was expecting it to be bogged out there today (gladly not)

Here's hoping for a warm & dry August!

Registered another 1.6mm over night. Been a nice sunny day today, quite windy this morning but it's calmed right down now.

From midnight till now, yesterday's total was 45.4, so basically all in it was 47mm.

Don't know how I missed it - should have been visible from here.

Looking at the screenshot, can someone please explain why the radar shows light rain/drizzle on a nice day, when all I see is slightly larger cumulus nearby. Milton Keynes. Is it moisture in the cloud?

One of them nights where I just cannot get back to sleep :-(

On the plus side it looks like a decent sunrise is on the cards before the rain arrives mid-morning.

If anyone is awake at this crazy hour & you have a decent camera get snapping :-D

Starting to rain here now, light at present and the wind is picking up.

Further ahead next weekend might give us a storm :)

Anyone know when this boring wet dark cold rain is suppose to stop today?

BBC TV forecast has it raining at 5pm across our region, so that's 8hrs of rainfall, but looking at radar it seems to be moving very quickly.
