Nasty wet this morning and still raining, roads flooded and rivers bursting their banks especially along the A66 near Cockermouth.

Wonderful example of rain shadow effect of Snowdonia and surrounding hills here again today: 4-5 hours of sunshine, clouds all around but in the middle of the valley, blue skies above us, no rain apart from 5 mins of drizzle. I would do with this all Winter, just perfect wind direction, exactly from Snowdonia.  :D

Been in South Yorkshire with work today and it was dry throughout.

First rain I saw was on the M62 as I got towards the summit but from then onwards it was heavy rain all the way home although it is dry again now.

Pennine rain shadow at its most annoying, dumping rain on Lancashire and leaving Yorkshire mainly dry but if it was snow instead of rain.........no doubt that would be a different story.

Similar around here though with less sun. Only very small amounts of rain and a constant temperature around 14/15°C.

I think the next few days will be very wet with some places especially in Cumbria could receive 100mm:

Yikes.... 70-100mm of rainfall with a possibility of 150-200mm for some exposed areas from Saturday to Monday, warning maybe escalated to amber....See latest Met Office warnings - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map&map=Warnings&zoom=5&lon=-3.50&lat=55.50&fcTime=1447286400

Models are showing highest totals for Cumbria... 6 years after the devastating floods of November 2009 when over 300mm of rainfall was recorded in parts of the Lake District...      :help:

Same here, sporadic bursts of rain and strong winds picking up.

Small chance that the rainfall for Saturday at least could miss Cumbria and hit more southern parts, its one too keep an eye on nonetheless because if it does hit Cumbria then no doubt there will be some flooding from it.

Looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully we will see a classic sunshine and shower set up. I suspect things may start grey and wet before the bright convective weather arrives. Also I suspect tomorrow will be the day when the winds could be at their strongest

The wettest period looks to be the 24hrs between 6am Sunday to Monday, so over 70mm of rain predicted in that 24hr period alone.

Very little rain here so far. Wind is increasing but is still only a fresh breeze. 13.5°C.

Looking forward to a showery night after the cold front clears, heralding the first convective polar maritime spell since the beginning of September.

heavy rain for the last hour or so and a strong breeze.

As for the weekend, looking at the models, parts of the region are looking likely to be on the receiving end of some seriously large amounts of rain and the flooding issues that go with it.

Usual suspects such as the Central Lakes and North Wales look likely to take the brunt of it but I wouldn't be surprised to see some very wet weather across and down the Western side of the Pennines so western draining rivers such as the Lune, Ribble, Irwell etc could be running very high through built up parts of Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

An interesting few days coming up and a period where keeping an eye of the EA warnings may be worthwhile for those in areas prone to flooding.
