My word. This is actually considerably stronger! Almost seems out of nowhere. I've been so busy with things lately that I haven't had time to check weather etc!

Cyclogenesis must've bombed to another level on this beast.

Patricia has broken records for how quickly it strengthened. Pressure fell by 100mb in 24hrs.

Recon flight hasn't had much luck either, plane was dropped 2,000ft in half a minute on their outbound pass by 170kt winds.

I asked him why he hadn't left  https://twitter.com/DaveMcKlveen

I guess its been a very quick 24hr turnaround

If you cant fly out where do you go when exact landfall hasn't been determined

Should have just made a mad run for it as soon as it was predicted yesterday, just drive as far as you can to the other side of the country, just have to trust your best meteorological judgement and hope for the best, better than just staying right near the coast.

Here's another live stream of Patricia

What timeframe is it that we will actually be seeing something resembling a CAT 5 hurricane on these webcams, I understand the fact that it probably wont last long when we do though.

Mlllaahh! I know those research folks are used to severe turbulence, but I have reached for "the bag" in a quite a bit less! Yuck!

Should get a bit breezy though before then.

Aye, if it keeps to its estimated landfall time we should see things starting to get worse in the next 90 minutes or so you can see the sea is starting to get choppier

And nor do we want such extreme weather!! It would be truly devastating on an epic scale! Agree with Moki - Patricia will cause major major problems whether you happen to be poor or wealthy.

Wanted or not its what 'weather' does. And as the president of Mexico has said " This is a natural phenomenon"

People pay big money to chase extreme weather in the states, knowing the chance in a life time to see an f5 (from a safe distance) could easily course many deaths.

Not directed at you, but what are folk viewing these live webcams expecting to see........?

one crumb of comfort, those 200mph winds are a narrow band near the eye.

it's 75 to 200mph winds within that narrow band.

People about 40 miles from the core, will probably only get tropical storm conditions

It'll be real bad in that core though

Katrina peaked at 150kts with pressure of 902mb. So yeah, Patricia is much stronger.

Most the damage created by Katrina was from the storm surge rather than the winds too. I guess Patricia *should* weaken quicker than Katrina as it hits mountains on landfall compared to the low lying deep south of USA, but Patricia is a different beast and is obviously making landfall a lot more powerful!

I remember that, i was only nine at the time and I thought the world was coming to an end.. this is twice as bad. :shok:  :shok:

A lot worse than twice as bad. Remembering that the force of a 200mph wind is 4 times that of a 100mph one. (200 divided by 100, squared)
