Mix of rain sleet and tiny speck of snow in Redditch

Wifey just texted to say heavy snow just north of Birmingham, near Perry Barr

Large flakes in Dudley, temp down to 1.1C, dewpoint at 0.5C.  Ideal conditions for snow and could account for the large flakes.

I'm so pleased to hear people are seeing falling snow (if not a little jealous as we have rain, of course).

It's cleared through here now, patches of blue sky showing. Think that's the last of whatever it was.

Still a bit of light snow coming down. However what settled earlier has already turned to slush or thawed completely. Always the way. Maybe Friday will give something more substantial. However at this time of year you really need it to be dry beforehand and to have very heavy snow and ideally at night to get a good covering. Still it was nice while it lasted.

Just seen my first snowfall of the whole winter!! It was in Leicester

Travelled up to Leicester yesterday to see my family and go to the Leicester vs West Brom game last night and as I was in town today, the heavy rain turned into heavy snow for 5-10 mins! It was big fat wet snow and didn't settle but it was good to see. On the way back to Oxford now, where I expect I will see no more snow!

Quite amusing that now that March has arrived, finally get to see a bit of daytime snowfall. Something that Winter 2015/16 failed to accompolish.

Compared to quite a few areas, though, it's been rather marginal here with alternating rain and very wet snow (an even heavier burst probably would have kept it stuck as falling snow). But better than nothing I guess and a nice little surprise to see. Hopefully some more surprises for the  Midlands snow weather enthusiasts in the next few days with some chilly cyclonic North-Westerly/Northerly and North-Easterly flows. More especially for anyone who didn't get to see anything wintry today (which I know how annoying it can be where everywhere else gets snow, but you). :good:

Maybe someday we will all be on here reporting on how our back gardens resemble scenes on a Christmas card.

Well, I've now seen snowflakes fall in Bewdley. At its very heaviest, for about 40 seconds, there were quite a few flakes mixed in with the rain. Woop-de-doo. :p But glad to hear that others with a bit more altitude have seen proper snow, even if only briefly.

Hi john

The grass snow level was Buxton 300M

then as we exited towards the Cat & fiddle the pavements had that coverage at about 375-M

at 400M the roads went from wet to setting snow -

Cat & Fiddle at 500M had heavy blowing snow - approx 3cm bit as said was blowing all over the place-

so yes your height about right-

once we came back down past Matlock it was all green again

Just a bit of sleet on and off in Derby. However I won't despair as I will be visiting the Peak District this weekend and so happy to hear those hills starting to turn white ready for then. Forecasts don't show temps in the High Peak getting much above freezing all week so not expecting any major thaw.

What was I saying the other day about moving you back to Leics? Lol

Trying to sleet again here, but really it's all a bit underwhelming!

Take that back, it's chucking down hail...
