Looks like the big mass of snow/sleet is stalling a little ....much further North than here though around Stoke to Sheffield ...think Sheffield and Chesterfield will do as well as anyone tonight

By the time it reaches the midlands it will be very patchy, ppn looks to be dying rapidly. Glad I have seen snow Wednesday and Thursday because this looks like a let down.

Sadly this winter is turning more into a John Hurt...shoe-horned in at the last minute to make the other winters around it make sense.

This is my second winter since I moved to Halesowen, and frankly, as I don't have a drive and my car is parked on a narrow street used as a rat run, I'm actually pretty scared what will happen to my poor car if we have any real snow! But you and I have been on the midlands snow thread for a number of years now so you'll know, despite the car, that I really, really wanna see some proper snow! Not holding my breath

Looks like that first blob of precipitation over the leeds area was anaprop.

That blob just west of harrogate will be the real stuff, things are shaping up nicely for a good night in west yorkshire ;)It's also showing signs of intensifieng on the last loop and a good 50-75 miles further east than initially progged, I expect a direct hit now for some of us tonight!

If you look at the forcast through the night the shift East should stop and then move south. Birmingham looks to be a dividing line with east of that getting snow

Still waiting for anything to fall here. Did see an umbrella about 15 mins ago, but whatever it is is so light it's not dampening the ground and I'm not about to go down to find out!

After light snow we now have a starry clear sky can't see much happening.

Do you not look at obs?

NW has temps generally around 2C and dewpoints at 0C or below, whereas many parts of W Mids have temps at 3-4C, with dewpoints around 1C in some parts.  Add to that WBPTs of around 3C and 850s creeping up toward 0C this evening and overnight, it's as marginal for lower level parts of the W Mids as it can get.

Yes I do, it was showing temps above zero in the places that were reporting snow. I thought the milder air was to the west, which is why it seemed strange that places west of here were getting snow.. Perhaps it's just the unexplainable Shropshire curse again. I mean I've seen it rain at -1C here.

Just a damp mess outside, not even feeling very cold.

Nothing's dropped here yet, taking a walk out to Tesco later when it's due to hit properly so will report then.

Provided there is some precipitation then we have quite favourable conditions here. Down to 0.3C at present with a dew point of -1C.
