Sad to see all those flood pictures, hope everyone is safe and can get things sorted out soon!

It has started snowing here very lightly and I don't think it will come to much but this is only 2nd time this winter I have seen snow falling here so it's nice to see :)

I think that's us done now... (Haven't checked radar)

a surprise snowfall. Gave a covering but cars were driving past with 1-2 inches on them from higher up. Was really, really heavy. If it had been just a bit less wet we'd have seen 1-2 inches i'd say. Somewhere with height would have done really well.

hopefully more surprises in the coming days.

0.2c, starting to slowly melt but looks very pretty

:girl_devil: Aye - apparently it's going to snow in all the parts of the Borders that I'm not in!!

I am sorry to all my fellow Borders but I've killed our snow chances for today by putting out a forecast on my FB page promising snow today.

I never said no snow for you :) just that the highest risk wasn't for you. I will likely be proved completely wrong so don't give up just yet :D

Don't have a decent camera and it's quickly melting

1st image shows the light cover over the haylage bales

2nd... Tried to zoom in to get a better shot but failed. You can see the arena (which has insulated woodchip and basically is a surface which freezes easily and snow lies easily on) is covered white - before the horses.

3rd is my front garden, looking out towards the fields.

much better snow on the hill (about 300ft or so) but low cloud is obscuring it. When it was snowing i had zero visability.

did take videos but wouldn't upload and tbh, weren't that good. Didn't do it justice as although very little snow lay, it was exceptionally heavy. Ground was soaked. Heaviest snow since last January (funnily enough the 7/8th of January rings a bell for last year when we got 4 inches)

hopefully this is merely the start...

Afternoon all,

Glad you dodged the worst of it Ravelin, I really hope we are seeing the beginning of the end of all the flooding.

Recorded just my second air frost of the winter (and fourth of 2015/16 season) this morning - the car took a bit of scraping. We even saw a bit of sunshine this morning though it's clouded over now. Much colder with Leuchars reporting 0c at 1300!

Looking at the Hawick and Carter bar traffic cams and thinking I'll drive home early.

More for winter tyre fun, notably over Soutra, but also just in case people start sliding and hold me up like almost happened last time (luckily there was room to drive past them all).

EDIT I can see people have been probably sliding at Carter bar - tyre tracks wildly crossing lanes where there's no overtaking on a tight bend.

Heavy snow here now!

It won't come to much I feel but it's great to see as I didn't expect any here :D

Current snow line is gloriously evident on Wyvis today against a crisp blue sky seen from Inverness, where it's 1cimage.thumb.jpg.f094c96c057d34549231b861

My sympathies to all those in the towns and countryside who have had so much destroyed by the floods.

Same view from here Wyvis and all hills above about 800 feet solid white all around the Firth. As cloud cleared at dawn the frost came down and is digging in in the shade ,currently  sunny  and  1c      At last a fabulous winter day.

0.7c/0.3c/E which, I think,  is low enough to start off as sleet/snow from whatever is approaching on the radar?   Temp did increase slightly about an hour ago to 1.1c but has since fallen back again.

Looking well tasty on the Hawick cam. Now starting at Earlston just a couple of miles south of my house.

Staying at work for now. Want to time it so I meet it pelting down as I approach Soutra.

No fun getting safely home before it arrives.:diablo:

EDIT. Mrs SS reporting arrival at the house with garden turning white. Nice.

EDIT2. Wish me luck. I'm off now.:)

Snow starting to lie in Prestwick at sea level. Grass and cars white.

Quick call home confirmed snowing and lying in Darvel also.

Check out the A78 Sharphill East cam at the Saltcoats road.

Precip showing on radar here but no dice as usual. Started very lightly snowing for about 2 mins at lunch time then turned to spits of rain and very cold now, no precip at all.

Jings, that's some heavy snow and pretty good snow cover on that webcam.  Only a few flakes lazily drifting down up here in East Kilbride.

Abington and Beattock cams looking rather snowy now too.

SS this is copied from BBC just now:

"A number of routes have been blocked by accidents and vehicles stuck in heavy snow across the south of Scotland.

Police said 50 cars were reportedly stuck on the A7 between Langholm and Longtown.

Traffic Scotland reported the A701 was blocked near the Forest of Ae by a tanker and HGV.

The A68 was said to be blocked both ways by cars stuck in heavy snow near Jedburgh. One woman was cut free from her vehicle on the A698 near Denholm.

She was treated by ambulance personnel."

Seems to be a the radar fault. Shows precipitation ahead of where it actually is. I recken the snow is half an hour behind where it is showing on the radar.
