now he is saying 'lots of scatter in this mornings runs, mixed signals' 

so i wouldn't be despondent. I think it's all up in the air and at least we have the cold air in place...

Showers are fairly pepping up in the West!

Latest BBC forecast on telly just showed a band moving south through Friday morning - looked like a dead dog by the time it reached the central belt though!

Well snowed at 7pm then turned to rain till midnight. Must have snowed after that as we woke up to a very decent 1" or so of snow.

A selection of photos across the Firth to the north  showing snow showers coming down from the NW some in the vicinity of Hairy Celt.

 

 

 

One showing a dusting of snow on the Cawdor hills to the SW. Currently 1c and sunny       

 

Within minutes moderate snow shower has come in off the Firth and given us a covering.

Nice day here with clear blue skies.. However I can see further West over the Argyll Hills and part of the coast cloud and some Anvils.. So heavy wintry showers down there hopefully these stay away as I want to see a proper frost rather than Icy roads in the morning..

I am sure just the usual trouble dealing with cold in the models....and there will be mixed signals....there nearly always is whether it be summer or winter

all I know is we were -5.5 overnight and I have a frozen 1.5 inch of snow base so temps only gonna go lower the next few nights and worst case probably a messy breakdown at some point but I am sure some features will pop up just as the posts above in this thread are already showing.

Ended up with just over 3" from last night's snawfall. Result!

Froze overnight with a low of -2.1ºC and the high for today looks to be in at 0.8ºC, so a very slight thaw in the beautiful cauld sunshine. 

Currently 0.0ºC/-2ºC

An absolutely cracking day here today - cannot remember the last time I clapped eyes on blue skies such as these. It's been a while...

Went for a wee dander and took some snaps of the winter wonderland.

Kind of distant cloud to the west but too far in the distance to make anything of it. Still as clear as a bell here jolly cold though

been watching a shower move in from the north west  and it was snow

Had a brief heavy snow shower and was enough to turn everything white 

The showers were dying out before they reached here earlier so lets hope things pick up over night to give a good covering

Here is the Upper Tay valley this morning courtesy of Brian, a member of NW. Last week this was all under water. Just a few miles East as is often the case in recent years the main A9 artery has virtually no snow in the Ballinluig / Pitlochry areas for some reason though it often settles around Dunkeld.

Just had a further moderate snow shower which I captured coming in from the NW around 3.30pm. Currently -1c.

Cold today, freezing hard all day in Glenmoriston and only got up to about 1C at home.  Snow showers in clusters scattered around through the day, quite the wintriest day I've experienced this er winter.

What's going on with these icicles? 

 

Loch na Ba Rhuaidhe, between Drumnadrochit and Kiltarlity at about 250m.  Frozen over then snowed on.  Wierd stripes just visible, again a bit of a puzzler

 

There's an old troll in the woods near there that the Forestry Commission have had some bother with; they offered him a new bridge but he wasn't impressed  and went back to his old stone one built by guess who, that ubiquitous Wade....!

FINALLY!!! Blue skies, warm sunshine, cold and not a drop of rain! Such an awesome day.

I spent 3 roaming about the Lomonds and then sat at the top of East Lomond, on the lee of the hill for an hour. Out of the wind and in the sunshine it was utter utter bliss  

Almost managed an ice day with a max of 0.1C, and the temp plunged quickly just after 3pm and is now at -1.6C. More please!!

Watching what's happening up Lochaber way. Showers starting to move south and East. Might take till morning but think we will get something.

Wind really got up in the last half hour still -0.3c and I notice showers developing and coming in from the NW on the radar . So we will perhaps have some blowing snow overnight. Cold spell still has some life in it.

Well that escalated quickly.....Probably be gone by morning

Few cms overnight and at -1c we're 7 degrees up from this time yesterday, getting colder through the day though with more showers expected

Strange mismatch in forecasts for the coming weekend - BBC National (Thomas I think) saying clear and frosty all weekend (without going into too much detail on Sunday), whilst others saying snow Saturday and Sunday (In Scottish terms)

Interesting to see what the models come up with today...
