I know a fair few of us go on holidays to hot climates where nights at this temp are the norm but it doesn't beat the feeling of it being IMBY. The feeling of walking out of an air-conned office into this heat outside at this time of night is incredible. Not a hint of chill. I also feel in the heat that things sound different. The motorway traffic seems more subdued like the heat creates a deadening noise (like snow in Winter).

Down to 23C. Certainly no record warm night on the cards for us. I predict the min here will be in the 16-18C range, as opposed to the BBC's wildly optimistic forecast of 21C.

Min by min was 20c,currently back up to 22c now

Anybody who found sleeping pleasant last night is either fibbing or has air conditioning...this weather really takes it out of you.

Two industrial strength G&Ts just before bed sorted that out. Slept like a log

I got adequate sleep but it was very difficult. 26c in my room when I woke up this morning, not pleasant at all.

Yes, just about adequate sleep with the windows open and no duvet.  The minimum in our garden was 21.7, the warmest night I've experienced here in Reading (since 2002) by a large margin. The nearest official station at the university recorded a minimum of 19.8.

I was also in Shanghai in 2009, and remember that night - we arrived around 10pm and the temperature was still 33C.  We were unlucky with the eclipse where we were - thunderstorms leading up to totality and the clouds didn't break until afterwards.

Those temperatures look average for July/August.

Is ARGEPE on the mushrooms again?

Big differences between some runs for northern Scotland even at T12 - a few short range models have it pretty hot around Inverness

edit - Lakenheath already at 28C so will be interesting to see how high it goes ...

any word on last nights warmth? Did we beat the August 1990 record as a few places were still around 25c at 3.00am

I don't believe so. There were a few between 22.5C and 23.0C, but non above that.
