We could have been in for an impressive sub-zero tonight if the cloud and murk wasn't forecasted to come off the Irish sea.  Any frost will probably be early doors.

A lovely winters day, wall to wall blue skies and sunshine, light winds, frost lingering all day in sheltered parts where the sun never shone. Max of about 4 degrees after a low of -2 degrees, overall mean 1 degrees, which constitutes a cold day.

Outlook not that bad, bit of rain tomorrow and perhaps Wednesday, Thursday promises a similiar day today, with probably colder minimum to start the day, pity by the weekend the mist and murky mild is back, but I suspect shortlived.

I've been out of sorts since before NYE and that usually means I feel the cold more but.............it felt damn raw outside this afternoon.

curently thawing out again under a quilt with the heating blasting out.

I'm expecting a very hard frost overnight as the wind veers more and more off-shore as the night goes on. Hopefully the coldest night of the year at least.

Chance of freezing rain on Friday morning?

Final day's holiday before back in work tomorrow and what a lovely days weather it's been.

hardly a cloud in the sky and with little or no breeze it felt more springlike than early January in the sunshine.

fantastic visibility would have made for a great walking day if a mixture of just getting over a heavy cold and having the boiler serviced hadn't put an end to that.

however a bit of tidying up is done and the outside decorations are back down for another year so not a fully wasted day on the end.

all we need now is some seasonal weather to take minds of the long slog towards Spring but looking at the model thread, prams are already empty of toys as our snow is once again redirected towards the eastern med while we look down the barrel of another period of nothingness.

Highest of the season so far.

When we see snow actually falling and settling then we can finally say that they've called it right.

we are due a change of luck but whilst there is even the remotest chance of it going wrong, I'm convinced it will.

-0.4°C currently. I should beat my record for the winter of -1.6°C tonight.  This is air frost number 3.

The 12z ENS are in good agreement for 13-15 January for a NW flow with wintry

Showers uppers of -8 maybe a bit marginal for accumalating snow at sea level

Would imagine uppers of -10 would do thjob.more scatter after the 15th as you

Would expect.

Morning

Overnight low of -4.7c :cold:

Looking at the models this morning GFS has gone of on one(when does it not LOL)Although its sits in the milder end of the ENS in FI

ECM and UKMO Are good this morning (much as last night)

To sum up briefly.

Mild start to next week, becoming colder as a NW flow sets in with Wintry/snow showers falling to modest levels(in agreement with the ENS)

No point going any further at this stage. So a cold 3-4 day cold snap with some wintry activity for the region later next week.

GFS 06Z now back on track showing a cold NW flow with -8 Uppers On the 13th anything from here cold or mild is FI IMO

C.S

This is really a cracking run for NW England plenty of snow showers from T192 on a cold NW,PM Flow

not seen a cold NW flow for many years, will wait to see were this sits with the ENS

Well a  hard air frost as I expected with a low of -3.1°C.  It was so beautiful standing outside at dawn, what winter should be like.

High cloud from tomorrow's weather front starting to spill in now. Suspect that calls game over on any chance of an early frost tonight too. Still feels cold outside tho.

Cold day with a frost this morning. Even reports of park lakes freezing over in local paper. Loving the cold frost mornings. :cold:

Yes the local park pond was frozen today and still is. Not all that surprising really.
