Yes I think this next few hours into max daytime heating will be nervy to get through.

Hopefully this evening will cool down quickly and the really heavy stuff will arrive on queue 🤞

Yeah, amber warning was always from later in the afternoon. I'm not overly worried, think tomorrow morning will produce some of the best pictures and disruption! Snow definitely getting heavier now so that should counter any melt.

Just turning to snow here after several hours of light rain/sleet. We must be one of the least favoured areas for snow being only 10m asl (close to Junc 34 of M62 south of Selby). Yesterday produced the very first flakes since winter 21/22 !!

Current temp 1.8 with Dewpoint 0.3

Been snowing since around 1230 yesterday, grass is completely covered but the roads are still completely untouched. Tonight will be a big test when the temperatures drop.

If the snow in Leeds continues like it is, it won’t settle. It needs to get a lot heavier to start settling.

Currently in central Bradford, flake size has improved but temp of 1 degree, accumulating on existing cover nicely, but not sticking on paths or roads, noted large amount of gritters out on the roads, so I can't see them gritting that much if they're not expecting a decent event ❄️

Pretty poor up here in Pateley Bridge.  Looks like the MO are covering their backs with an amber warning for us.  Looks like precipitation heaviest further south, looking at the radar and predictive snow.

Very similar in north Sheffield it’s really starting to build up and stick to everything. The washing line is starting to sag I wonder if any power lines will go down later, with how it’s sticking to the washing line currently

A light covering up on higher ground here but in the village the roads are absolutely fine, just very wet. It has been gently snowing on & off all morning, but as we all know, it’s this afternoon that’s the real watch….will it stay wet? Time will tell.

Just feels like someone need to press a button and up the intensity and then it’s jackpot time 😆

Very fine wet snow here now, but more like snizzle really. Temperature is 2.1C with a dewpoint of 0.1C so as marginal as it gets.

Worth noting that most models don't show any significant accumulations until later.

We have 4cm on the grass/natural and raised surfaces now.

But as the snow gets heavier it is  sticking to more areas of the drive and pavement.  Some big flakes now.   Also though  the temp is rising , up to -0.1c now from -1.2c earlier so unsure what the next few hours will bring.

So it’s meant to ramp up later? This current stuff will wash the salt off the roads as it’s just melting.

As other Barnsley members have mentioned, the intensity is there but the flakes are still relatively small. probably a couple of centimetres settling on surfaces other than roads and paths.

As many keep saying, models were showing basically only light amounts for now, the bulk is this evening / overnight. Think of this as just an added extra.

Snow is now moderate bordering on heavy here, but flake size has increased but still only a couple of mm's in size. Schools will be panicking now.

Yes,  all the models show very little for now and accumulations later (although radar watching is the best bet as it's hard to forecast)

It's been snowing for nearly an hour in Lincoln now but still not settling.  I didn't expect much if any lying snow before Friday morning, so the outcome isn't a letdown in itself, but I have a nagging feeling that had this event happened in my childhood 30 years ago (when the UK climate was about 0.5C cooler) at least some of this snow would be accumulating on the ground.  It's just that little bit too warm.

Intensity has picked up now - looks quite heavy just south of Leeds. Hopefully can drift a little bit further north. Heavy enough now that its creating slushy deposits on pavements. If it keeps it up Roundhay Park will look very pretty just after work!

Will probably go for a walk in a bit to check up higher and into the woods as well. Pretty heavy snow throughout the last hour or so but close inspection reveals something a bit weird. Pavements and Roads look like a bad case of dandruff gradually getting worse but, at the same moment, some flakes are sticking whereas similar sized flakes next to them are dissolving. Very peculiar, any idea as to what might cause that?
