The system is indeed heading south-westwards through Lincolnshire but a dry slot has developed and Lincoln is right in the middle of the dry slot, so I'm not expecting anything from tonight's band now. Still -1.5C at the University despite extensive cloud cover, so it would probably have fallen as snow if it hadn't fragmented and formed the dry slot. Potential for wintry showers here, quite possibly of snow but probably not providing much if any snow cover, through late tomorrow and Friday I reckon.

Very slight dusting in Barnsley this morning with the frost cover helping it settling.  Overnight low of -1.2c.

Some decently heavy showers giving the low areas of Vale of York some snow

A little dusting here too in South East Sheffield, sticking to all surfaces after a very crisp frost earlier in the night ❄️

Wind has veered overnight here, as expected, now NE. For our location that pushes the showers more inland, but is keeping temperatures at the coast just above freezing. A mix of rain sleet and snow here this morning, but it looks like showers are turning readily to snow as they are pushed further inland. Yesterday was colder here.

Dusting here interesting the temperatures went above freezing when the showers arrived. Explains why it was struggling to settle when I saw it falling in the night.

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?

Reports of access problems on the Moors inland from Whitby due to snow.

A light dusting here and currently snowing lightly. Most of the showers have missed here but it appears it is at least cold enough even at sea level close to the coast for when they do.

Do the models suggest any notable shower activity over the next day or two.

Quite unusually the temperature is rising during the showers. It was 1.1C and now a heavy shower of grauple and heavy wet snow has come over and its now 3.0C.

Usually the opposite happens and the temperature falls!

Graupel showers today, several quite heavy ones, but managed to dodge them while cycling. Winds NE Force 2-3 temps 3C. Looking inland there wasnt much whiteness at lunchtime and maybe a degree up on yesterday here.

This was the shower that hit just after I got back home rolling in. You can see the precipicitaion streak clearly

Just driven back from Driffield on the B1249, a slight dusting on the highest parts, at 'waterwork' bends nr Driffield and at Octon Roundabout, but nothing of any concern...

We had a couple of fleeting and sparse snow showers this morning,  after a thin coat overnight, and then a thaw, though the garage roof is still white. There is a sizeable cluster of new showers coming over the N.York Moors again tonight. Odd ones are  making it through to York and beyond so some might get a top-up for morning.

Had a lovely dusting this morning melted in the sun spots today but still lots of cover in shaded places a nice start to the festive season!
