Yes. I'm Kettering too. Seem to have survived without any damage I can see. But it was crazy for a while .

Possible cloud iridescence in the distance though I'm not sure it was quite far away, this was almost full zoom.

Crikey, there are some beefy old showers bustling through this end. Definitely enough extinguish any lit pumpkins   . Glad I’m not camping be very testing on the canvas everyone is hoping it’s as water repellent as advertised!!

No your right ,nothing to write home about for sure ,but if

the gfs is right, a little tropical stormlet (tiny)but if bigger or stronger over the Azores will upset the apple cart ,and we might get something ,don't know what ,but more than we have at moment

Well ,GFS looking back did really well I think ,if anything it's a cracking model ,it might not be so accurate as local models but it's available to all and always sort of has has the jist of things way out ,well Wanda did form and it became a named storm west of the Azores but it's realized it's gone to far north and waters are chilly ,if it had stayed slightly south it  would have proper propped high pressure in good position ,but now I think we have onslaught of jet ..:-(

Sunday was quite some day for some, depending on location. Some very heavy rain, very strong winds and possibly a tornado or two in the mix. This Tweet from Convective Weather summed up the situation around mid-day:

1366900576_Radar30OctConvectiveWeather.thumb.jpg.9a0c3017683171e2418d9b6f7b068fbf.jpg

The potential for locally damaging winds/isolated tornado continues to shift northeastwards. Highest gusts so far:

  • 87mph Isle of Portland Dorset
  • 75mph Needles IoW
  • 74mph Boscombe Down Wilts
  • 72mph Larkhill Wilts
  • 69mph Wittering Cambs
  • 62mph Southampton
  • 60mph Oxford Airport

Looking back at the Netweather Radar, I'm suspicious of the wrap-around at the centre of the system as it moved in a NE'ly direction up the western side of the Region. It certainly resembled the signature of a 'sting jet' that can cause a narrow band of very strong winds. (A nice description of a sting jet on the Met Office website). I've marked-up two radar grabs from yesterday to show the feature and track:

Not denying climate change at all, but we've always had tornadoes.

spits and spots ,looked lovely from here, and like i says gfs is still trying to throw a low under that high later in run,to get a blast of north northeastlys ,i know u like storms and sleet and cold rain might not be your cup of tea , but it seems a tropical or sub tropical system will do it ,if at all

Temps down here overnight, low of 4 degrees apparently. The sunshine and seasonal temps are very welcome, hope it lasts through till the weekend!

What a beautiful morning. Down to 2C earlier and a decent ground frost. Some mist around first thing too. Now a cloudless sky and barely a breath of wind.
