Kids are revolting......at the weather I should say as they are refusing to go out as it's "too cold".

Unpleasant day out there.  Grade A permagloom, occasional spits of drizzle  and a strong cold SE wind making the thermometer reading of 6.8c a bit academic.  Back to winter jacket and hat.

Been in a campsite just outside Hexham since Friday eve. Yesterday was decent, actually quite warm in the sun at times, today has been full permagloom with a biting cold wind, so a home away from home by the sounds of it.

Visited Housteads Roman barracks on Hadrians Wall this afternoon. On a day like this I felt sorry for the poor auxiliaries that were stationed there for years on end when it was active. They reckon they were generally from Belgium or areas of what is now Holland. "Join the Roman army" they said, "get to see the known world" they said, get stationed on a bleak moor on the weeble end of England I'm sure they didn't say.

Weeble = rear, posterior end of the human body, usually sat upon.

Similar here obviously but we missed the drizzle thankfully and there was the odd spell of milky sun. I also had my wooly hat on despite doing plenty of physical work.

One advantage of the strong wind and dry weather was the ground continuing to dry out - got about a third of the new lawn area levelled and raked out nicely. I was hoping to get more done tomorrow but that's dependant on how much rain falls tonight and if I can actually get out of bed in the morning after a full day of solid raking today!

Cracking day today - quite breezy at times but mostly just plenty of warm sunshine. No sign of showers at all despite the met forecast.

Tomorrow looking similar - fingers crossed!

Regarding tomorrow's weather, it's unusual for an Atlantic low to bring colder air - most lows have a warm core sector - perhaps this is a cold core low?

Anyone know or can explain?  6c is the max temperature for Aberdeen tomorrow  which is very low for nearly mid April.

As far as I can see its a warm core https://moe.met.fsu.edu/cyclonephase/gfs/fcst/archive/23041106/50.html

There will be everything on the weather menu through tomorrow also Thursday hail, snow, thunder we've got good 500hpa cold pooling and the 528 dam and below wrapping around plus the centre of the low is directly over Scotland which will keep showers pretty stagnant over similar areas for extended periods

What a difference a few hours make.

Up until 8pm a very usable mild day with light winds, some good sunny spells and just a few short sharp showers in the morning.

As for now, at the time of writing, a foul cold (4.8c) night of heavy driving rain battering on the windows thanks to a very stormy easterly wind.

A big contrast to the sunset yesterday...

Dried up here now after a very wet and windy night. Still cloudy and feeling cold in the strong SW breeze having backed round from the Easterly gale during the night. Temp is around 5C here now. A cold night but lying snow appears to be confined to hills and very highest routes like the Lecht and Glenshee. Looking good for a warm up next week.

Miserable morning after wet night with strong winds. Temperature first thing  was 3c currently 4.5c with gale force southerly wind and what appears to be snow falling on the mountains to the south. Complete reversal in the weather pattern locally to  what normally happens. Cows and calves not looking to go out so will take the hint keep them in and feed them inside.

Not a bad day here just south of Glasgow, quite cold and a bit of a breeze but sun out at times and not too bad. Rain hit yesterday evening and through the night. Winds haven't been too bad overall either.

Rather horrid day half inch of rain which was sleety at times, covering of snow from about 600 ft to the south with good covering above about 1200 ft.

Suddenly looking like a risky night!  Sky clearing rapidly, calm, and already down from +12 max to +4.  Spud sacks fleeced, brassicas into tunnel, toms/chillis/lettuce/courgettes/melons etc. back into conservatory.  Over cautious?

There's a particularly deep level of hell reserved for courgettes. 😆

Had a walk up Kilspindie Hill in the Sidlaws this afternoon. Sunny ints but a really strong wind with exposure at the top. Just a few spots of rain and sleet in the wind at the top for a minute or two. Angus and Perthshire hills looking white though still a lot of cloud and showers there so not a clear view. Winds have been from all directions today. Gale force Easterly overnight to strong Westerly this morning slowly backing through South to East again and to eventually a fresh NNE now.
