A lovely start to the day with clear blue skys and little wind to speak of. Off out with the dogs before all the tourists turn up in the Dales then a day of drinking tea and pottering in the garden until they have all buggered off then I can get out again..

Beautiful couple of days here. Yesterday saw the first 20 °C of the year, with the thermometer topping out at 20.4 °C. Maximum so far today is 19.8 °C, so a decent chance of two 20s in a row. Plenty of sunshine too, a really pleasant spring day all round.

First 20C of the season and probably the first time it genuinely felt warm, sun was just a bit too low in the sky back in March and 17-18C didn't quite do it. Trying to ignore what's coming on Monday.

Nice bit of radar watching for the next few hours, for the extreme weather watchers out there!

A very weak squall is passing the Welsh borders now - bearing NNE. In its path some more noteable rain.

This was mentioned on the convective thread too.

Happy Easter.

Kept out the way of all the tourists here ( more than usual ie- can count on both hands.. Youlgrave/Monyash especially Bakewell another story.. But got the cabbages and potatoes in the veg patch. Given the models I don't think it will be quite as dire as some like to think on the MOD thread... Yes it will be dry here.

We needed a bit of rain I'll slightly reluctantly agree, but it's still nice to see blue skies again today! A little edge off the temperature because of the breeze, but 19.1 °C is still feeling very pleasant. Tomorrow looks like being a fantastic late spring day, too.

The minimum last night of 5.3c was the lowest of the month here.

Unless tonight is colder, which seems unlikely, this will be the highest lowest minimum in May since my records began at this site 45 years ago. The previous record was 4.9c in 1999.

Also, I've only just realised after a check through the data, the lowest max' this month of 12.0c on the 3rd will be the highest lowest max' on record in May unless today is colder. The previous lowest was 11.1c in 2011.

The storm was over Solihull.

It sprung up to the south West of Bham, on a line of convergence from here going back towards Worcester.

About half an hour before it struck I noticed that an upper inflow was dragging in scud cloud from the ENE.

An hour and a half later it is still raining - though it is now easing off.

Water very welcome for the garden, though not for the street parties planned for round here.

Lots of cloud to cloud lightning but saw no CG's.

Clearing up now after we recorded a very welcome 6 mms of rain to top everything up.

But the interesting thing is that the storms formed at the convergence of 2 weather type systems.

The showers started life in the SW and were moving up NE towards Birmingham.

However the wind switched direction here around 2 oclock and as I suggested a line of convergence formed over us.

It seems as though the actual convergence was where the storm formed, as probably the 2 air masses collided.

The flow from the East seems to have won as the showers are now retreating back towards the SW.

Dull all morning here in the Central Midlands.

Light rain (Though fairly big size spots ) has been falling for about an hour and a half now.

Enough to keep the roofs wet, but not enough for puddles.

Bit odd really..

Looking brighter now, but still spotting.

Is is a prelude to later storms/thundery rain  developing?

Our local street party starts at 16:00 so hoping for the best.
