Weren't any thunderstorms today, but after a cloudy morning it actually felt more like summer. Rain falling overnight allowing for sunny spells by tomorrow afternoon.

A fairly decent day here, yesterday's wind chill had pretty much gone and there was a bit more sun.

The kids broke up by us today, could we just be getting somewhere...

holidays started Mon 24th here, go back 5th and 6th Sept

Quite a nice evening here in my neck of the woods tonight, a nice enough light, just a few clouds around. And what could be described as twilight, which is lovely! With the slightly darker evening, and cool-ish temperature here, this could almost - almost - pass for late August/ early September...!

Anyway, this is nice. Should be an excellent temperature for sleeping tonight.

After a decent day, it was quite sunny and warm at lunchtime, it's now been hammering down for 2 hours.

The BBC saying we've had 137% of our expected rainfall for July, still 5 days to go.

I wonder where this will end up in terms of wettest July 's?

Agree, it's really Tuting it down here atm! Really driving rain. I opened the door and stuck my head outside, just to see...and could see my breath! On 26th July!!

A real wet one this month, I think. The park down the road from where I live has some very vivid green colours...so completely different from 12 months ago.

A quick note to complete the picture.

In the 24 hrs starting 7am yesterday morning , I recorded 20.3mms of rainfall.

Not as many have said exceptional, but it comes after 20 mms was recorded last weekend  and more fell 5.7mms during the week.

Thats around 50 mms for the 8days.

More rainfall is expected tonight as the cold front moves south again.

Cool  - my max yesterday was 16.9C at 21:00.

Doubt was expressed about my rainfall readings a week ago......

I checked with 3 local golf clubs and all were already over 100mms of rain.

Mine (130mms) was the highest reported though.  I suspect that was caused by the 2 or 3 thunderstorms which struck us earlier on in the month, and they were highly local with the rainfall  (as usual)..

I now think my reading is correct.

To add to the numbers last evening I recorded a further 15.3mms (between 16:00 and midnight) of solid rainfall now making 146mms in total.

About 170% above normal.

Already a new record for July for me. (going back 20 years).

Following yesterday's extra 20mm of rain, my station is at 98mm for July, (160% of average) and now ahead of July 2021 which got 95.6mm. Locally this July will become the wettest since 2012.

In addition, some Coventry wettest July stats. We might be able to overtake 2012.

Surprised some said this July wasn't going to be as bad as 2012 but i think its been near enough as bad, with how wet its been and cool temperatures. Surprised how muggy it feels today though.

Yes, it was warm enough to put shorts on today, the first time since June!

I’m still holding back regarding my CET guess 🫣

ATM it’s looking the same for the first half of August, like June as been , but I’m still not overly convinced that the 3rd week won’t be the same….the last week hopefully will settle and warm up, I’m submitting my guess Sunday evening, once I’ve seen the updated forecast with all these unseasonable waves ( Jet stream ) 🤣
Borrowed this from Sun Sean in the model thread

How perfect it is…lol

Quite a blustery 24 hour here with a few small branches down as trees are in full leaf and seed.. Some welcome rain about to arrive shortly looking at the radar, mowed the lawn this morning and took the dogs down Gratton and Long Dale. Roast is on and an Old Speckled Hen is just about to be opened..

Looking at the latest fax chart there's a possibility the record August low pressure here of  982.6 hPa in 1992 could be challenged as Wednesday's low moves through.

Indeed, Intersting viewing upon the weather charts.

XC weather has no major winds, mostly down south then the pivot happens and a North West becomes apparent.

UKV showing some heavy precip; Cape also squeezed down tight line.

A little confused as it looks like a CZ showing on radar but its a low pressure thats going to go through fast!

Been up a long time, sorry for typos

Yes it’s looking very possible, with a very strong southerly tracked Jet stream, it’s certainly beefing up that coming low for Weds for sure.

Looking through the models, seems the general consensus for the lowest pressure through Midlands tomorrow is around 983 - 986 hPa, with a few more extreme GEFS and ECM members getting close to 980. Will be interesting to see that change in wind direction from a southerly to a northerly I reckon as well.

It's been a good while since the centre of a fairly deep low moved through the Midlands and I imagine that is especially unusual for August. One can only dream for this set up during the winter.
