Not a bad couple of hours.

Nothing overhead here but a decent lightning display and some lovely rumbles.

Points all around me seemed to get a more direct hit looking at the radar but must not grumble!

Had it right on us about an hour ago. Really loud thunder and bright lightning too. Didn’t last too long though.

There was a massive CG bolt a few houses away from me but my phone over exposed it and my camera ran out of charge a few seconds before the strike

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME

Anyway, did manage to get a distant CG and the brightness on my phone from the other CG showed how close it was.

Some unsaturated photos to enhance the lightning as it wasn't showing up well on my phone very well.

Then some decent structure showing earlier in the event looking to my NE.

Oh there was definitely T&L Pete, rumbled around for a while, started just after 11pm and intense rain too, of course had I not had my 'the apocalypse is here' fluffy warning system, I may have slept through it.

That was quite some evening. Good job done by @Eagle Eye in highlighting the possibility. For the record, here's the rainfall totals up to midnight and the Blitzortung lightning chart at 11.30. Both a good indication of where the fun was last night.

Last Friday I posted the weekend rainfall forecasts from a few models (GFS, ICON, Arpege) and the the most accurate was GFS with this pretty good effort:

There was indeed. It started the very moment I went to bed!:drunk-emoji:

I went outside around 11 30 ish and didn't see or hear anything, not even a faint flash on the horizon.

Oh well, still July and August to go, probably just the average popcorn storm once a month with a couple of rumbles. Norfolk is hopeless these days.

What a lovely morning: dry and bright, a light northerly breeze, and only 15C!

This was probably my best of the event, taken of what grew to be an extremely potent Storm to my west but for me the main even was the one to my south which gave me the close strikes.

For people wondering why we don't get Storms after 30°C, it's mainly to do with dry air parcels and the capping that takes place but mainly dry air parcels since no energy seemed to be there on Friday at all. Dry warm air parcels with no lifting often takes place during these events. If the atmosphere is too dry then it has no ability to lift itself and without lift, there is no energy at any point within the atmosphere, its why lapse-rates are so important as well.

That's just my guess though.

Finding the weather even more changeable than normal this summer so far, yesterday for example, was hot humid up until lunch time, then it was raining at 25 degrees, then it got extremely windy and the temperature dropped 11 degrees, then there was violent thunderstorms, this morning there was clear blue skies an hour a go and very windy now it looks like it is going to chuck it down

I will need to find what weather service my friend down south uses because she knew there was storms coming to the SE before everyone else got on board.  She's not a weather geek either.

Not bad last night bit to far west they actually developed over me  and the skies were wicked followed by very heavy rain

Saw lots of distance flashes and also heard thunder which was a surprise

Next week looks superb

We seem to be in a rinse and reapet pattern a few days blip and back to warm again

The washout weekends vanish and get replaced with some form of breakdown then a re build of Heat.

It's not really a surprise given how warm  mainland Europe is

I think that's Facebook, my mum uses it to know when Storms are coming instead of asking me

Last night between 10pm and 11pm there was a massive amount of thunder and lightning which was very loud with my impaired hearing and having double glazed windows. It made me jump and my cat Simba was very scared of the loud noise and flashes of lightning. I felt a mixture of fear and excitement. Simba then hid in his cat cave. It is the first time that I have seen so much lightning for at 3 or 4 years or more. The thunder was louder, louder than normal.

There were no met weather warnings yesterday for the unitary authorities (boroughs) Thurrock and Southend who are both independent from the county /borough of Essex.

I live close to the M25 and M1 junction. I sat outside for about 30/40 minutes, I didn't hear thunder or see any lightning, just a bit of rain?  The lightning must have been within 4 or 5 miles.

Must have been very localised (and wish it had lasted longer).  We had about 6/7 flashes and 7/8 claps of thunder, not overhead like last night, but nice to hear nevertheless x

Some absolutely stunning skies here to end the day. The photo really doesn’t do it justice.

Heat waves are starting earlier and becoming more frequent and more severe because of climate change.
