AROME 06Z ... still showing a 100mph streak from the Midlands east. 90-95mph all the way to the E Anglia coast. Will this really verify? It's in the 1987 category for any areas affected, if it does.

Im so pleased my location is still in the yellow warning area, hopefully miss the worse of it.

Stay safe tomorrow everyone! I do not envy those of you in the south.

There we go. The Met Office clearly agrees!!

RED issued for north Devon and Cornwall. I imagine other places will follow later in the day.

St Austell is about 5-6 miles from that Red Warning area.

I'm surprised that southern Cornwall isn't in the red area.

I imagine there are some deep discussions going on at the METO around this. It's been a tough couple of years for everyone and the country doesn't need more disruption if it's not warranted. I would hope there are no political drivers to the warnings but I imagine anyone in a red area would be advised not to travel unless absolutely neccesary which impacts people going to work.

Hopefully sensible heads prevail and I imagine the METO will push for a red warning if it's warranted.

I agree, despite what I have said if a red is what is needed then of course it's better to issue it and perhaps it shouldn't necessarily be reserved for the very strongest events possible .

and there we have the answer! red issued.

Since I have now been issued a red warning I am going to take the necessary actions and make sure everything in my garden is secure. What is worrying is looking out at other peoples gardens and seeing things that can easily become flying debris.

I didn't know any of the models had the capability of picking up on sting jet potential. If that's indeed what they're showing, then all hail science!

Was probbaly looking at local, made the same mistake on my phone, no red showing for SW but then looking at all of the UK it appears.

I suspect they will extend the Red later today to some other areas.

But it's right to issue Red for the north coast of Devon and Cornwall and South Wales. As I mentioned earlier, the overnight runs and 6z have shown an intensification and danger to life with wind gusts possible to 100 mph.

This is very dangerous.

70mph winds in the middle of a working day in London justifies a red warning. This has been consistently modelled for days now.
