Couple of weeks time and the Lake District will pull on its full autumnal cloak, resplendent in brown, gold, yellow, orange, ochre, crimson and red.

Been down south this week in Oxfordshire.  Really noticeable that autumn colours are more advanced than up here.  Presumably a reaction to the drought down there.  Only just starting to turn round here really.

Aye I keep hoping that the trees in my back garden will drop their leaves so I can cut them back without worrying about the foliage but they’re still hanging on.

hopefully a decent gale or two will sort it.

Despite a short sharp shower this morning, it has been a decent day with plenty of sunshine. A high of 14.9C. It's still looking dry here for the bulk of tomorrow as well, within daylight hours at least.

That's good, I have a walk planned for tomorrow, White Nancy and Kerridge Saddle, plenty of layers on and hopefully not too muddy underfoot.  Jupiter very close to a bright moon at the moment, tried a photo, but I'm useless, blurry.🙂😊

Yeah, a great spectacle in the sky right now.  I love evenings like this, gazing up at the sky. Makes you realise just how small and insignificant we are in the universe. Looking forward to some clear, frosty evenings as we head towards and into winter.

A bit non-descript today's weather.  Early brightness has now succumbed to a grey dullness with not a great deal of warmth on offer.  Mind you I did manage to carry out the last cut of grass (fingers crossed) while it's been dry, just before rain signals the end of a dreary Sunday.

Still dry here. It's not been a bad weekend to be fair. It has stayed dry with plenty of sunshine on offer, and temperatures have been relatively mild for the time of year around 14C. It has clouded over now though. Defintely had far worse weekends in October, or even in Summer for that matter.

It's not been too bad this October - quite mild, sunshine levels not too bad, been a bit wet but it's October so what else can you expect? We've definetely had worse Octobers - 2017, 2019 and 2020 come to mind.

October 2017 did had that amazing storm though (ex-hurricane Ophelia) which brought a very strange days weather. I remember the day started off exceptionally mild but grey and then at lunchtime the sky turned a weird red colour. In the afternoon the sun came out and it turned exceptionally warm for the time of year with temps in the low 20's but also very windy. That day was five years ago, wow, time flies. There were a couple of seasonal cool sunny days with cold mornings but the rest of the month was just exceptionally cloudy, mild, wet and windy.

Rain slowly moving in from the west this evening leading to a wet night. Looking at the models further on and I'd say we're looking at an average month as in temperatures. The potential for some chilly mornings too should we get some ridges in-between weather systems. Looks like no exceptionally mild stuff that we've had in recent October's.

Sunny skies here this morning and then clouded in during the afternoon, although has remained dry until now, but rain now knocking on the door according to the radar. Not been a bad weekend really.

Pity really as I'd like one last blast of warmth before winter arrives. October 2017, 2018 and 2021 had some very mild/warm days but October 2019 and 2020 were rubbish, just cold, miserable and wet. However some of the model output was hinting at a warmer period around St Martins Summer (third week of October) so hopefuly that comes off.

Here are some time lapses from recent Octobers (not mine but from the Greater Manchester area).

Hopefully we get plenty of days like this this coming winter to keep the bills down.
