A chilly -1'c outside (-2'c DP) this morning with a nice covering of ice all over exposed surfaces, now it feels like the proper cold-air has truly begun to set in.

Looking at the forecast for the next few days just emphasises even more how much I hate a northerly in winter.

yes it’s good for northerly facing coasts and for parts of this region, it’s probably the best direction of all for snow but without troughs which seldom arrive, it’s as dry as the Atacami here.

give me an easterly any day or preferably an Atlantic front hitting the cold air and stalling although these are as rare as a polar low these days.

Good luck to those more in the firing line from what is on offer over the next couple of days and for others, enjoy the winter sunshine and pretend that the frost coating everything is snow.

our turn may just come by Saturday when the airflow backs more to the west or possibly even early next week when there are the slightest of hints that a more old fashioned Atlantic breakdown may occur.

At a family funeral later so it’s a case of wrapping up warm.

Long time since I posted in here, its getting colder now..  I recorded 0.5C this morning (now 2C) which makes it the coldest night of the season so far. No real frost either. But that will change, I imagine, during this week. Nice sunrise though this morning!

Minimum reached here was -1.1C. Lovely sunny, frosty start to the day. Should hopefully get a few degrees colder tonight, although the metoffice mentions the possibility of cloudier conditions and wintry showers in Western parts of the region later tonight which is intriguing.

Looking at this chart -4/-6c overnight tonight chilly 🥶 in Glossop and around… have the cold in now is the wait for troughs / features to develop in the flow/cold… interesting to watch the evolutions on the models… 🤞🤞🤞 You guys get snow in the coming week/10 days ❄️⛄❄️⛄

First frost of the winter (though there was a slight one in November). A proper winter's morning, clear blue sky, frost hanging around. I have just noticed one of the trees which has kept a lot of leaves dropping them onto my garden shed - and they're still dropping...that frost has done its job.

Weather station is on the brink of death I think. Keeps going off. It says 1.0C was the temp this morning, though it felt way colder and everywhere is frozen solid.

Below the forecasted temp either way. Can’t see much in the way of snow this week here, but we’ll see. Looks sunny & cold for the majority. Lovely, seasonal weather.

Just been out to the greenhouse to top up the bird feed... Thermometer in there says it dropped to -4.5ºC overnight; so that's -6.5ºC approx outside... The greenhouse tends to be 2 degrees warmer inside...

Defrosted the wife's Racing Jazz too; some brilliant patterns in the ice:

The back garden is frozen solid; great weather though for the root veg I've in the ground still (parsnips, swede & carrots) and the sprouts and cabbages that you can't see, just to the right of the picture behind our garage):

And probably the first frost my Japanese import BMW E39 has ever seen 😉
