Been a very bad year for thunder, basically the week of the Queen's death and that has been it for this year here. Doesn't look as though we are going to see anything thundery here from this latest batch

8 thunder days here this year, that's above average for me.

Lots of CAPE on WRF for this afternoon. After downgrading yesterday it's upgrade it again. Cold front seems to have moved through quicker than expected.

Man Airport METAR  mentioning CBs until about 4pm.  Worth a watch.

Would love to see snow falling this winter and laying for days.

Another 20-21 winter would do fine, without the lockdown restrictions of course

Wow, that is a pretty low bar if it is above average. Maybe location nearer the Irish Sea during spring/summer might be the reason. Take Manchester Airport thunder day average for the 1990s. It is about 17 days.

Remember I lived in Crosby until 2 years ago so my average is mostly based on that. 5-6 days/year there. maximum I ever had was 13 in 2014.

Since moving here I had 9 in 2021 and 8 this year. Also around half of those tend to be in winter from ocean effect.

I am moving soon further inland not far west from your longitude so expect to see an uptake in thunder days.

Wow it's all kicking off in the South East right now...listening to commentary of Tot V New match and thunderstorms a plenty esp around the capital.  Seems to be if you want a decent lightning show that's the direction to head....if you want snow you need to head to Greenland.  Ain't notin' happ'n ere!

And with Arsenal drawing and the Magpies picking the Cockerell carcass,  the Livebird let down might be a distant memory.

As you might have noticed,  I've been on in fits and starts due to mother in law being ill with stage 7 dementia and a water infection.  She's improving to a point after antibiotics bit has huge need.

Father in laws brother passed today so a challenging and upsetting week.

Hope your French getaway is without incident.

Very rare for Met Office to mention snow, normally say a wintry mix especially so early in the season, also coldest in north and west.. must be seeing a signal for an arctic NNW flow.. would be a big shock after what will be a very mild second half to October lingering into November. We shall see if it sticks with it, the colder forecast keeps being pushed back, but the met has been steadfast in mentioning it for Nov last couple of weeks.

Fireworks going off round my vicinity, where's the pouring rain when you need it? 🤣

Yes although we are a bit of a way from other houses our dog can hear fireworks in the distance. They have better ears than us and she hates it. Hides under the kitchen table bless her 😟 despite the economy people seem to have plenty of money for fireworks 🤔

There was a very warm spell around Halloween a few years back might have been 2017 or 16? Shame we didn’t see the amazing thunderstorms ⛈ further SE saw this afternoon but some warm autumn sunshine to end the day made up for the soaker of a start this morning. I’m hoping for a seasonal November - chilly days, fog, frost, the smell of bonfire smoke in the air rather than a mild wind & rain fest but we shall see 🍂 ☔☀️

Wouldn't quite describe the late October sunshine as 'warm', has same strength as the mid Feb sun.

Its interesting how our turns of phrase change, when its mild from now on until about April we say warm, yet same temps in the warmer half of the year would be described as cold...

Well what can I say - a murky misty damp mild morning. Stayed in bed a little longer as no lunches to make, kids on half term.

Not feeling this October at all, where are the crisp days with cool mornings.. early in the month it looked like we might see a more seasonal October after the cold latter part to Sept. Alas second half of the month is turning into one long very mild rather wet/ dank gloom fest in the main... still the autumn colours are now in full splendour. I do hope we see a change in November.
