The last few strikes have been right overhead - immensely bright IC bolts 🤩

well I will take it....the first storm since August 2020....not much lightning as we are right on the western flank of the squall line and the best stuff is over Birmingham and Derby way but we got a few distant flashes...but very very intense rain for around 10 minutes and strong gusts of wind....I will deffo take it.

Good to see a huge part of Central England getting a good show.

Lightning out east as well as south, not heard any thunder yet, but a pretty good distant lightning show, wind is picking up and here comes the rain.  Wow, and now I hear thunder.  Get in.

Sadly died a death after that big amount of lightning, went out with a whimper. How unfortunate - must have bumped into some weird air...

Died so quickly, a jet flew through it...

Was checking flightradar24 and saw this one.. what an exciting night for flights 🤣 Many aircraft being diverted to other airports at the mo instead of London.

Just had a pleasant surprise here! Despite my rather obstinate reservations on how far East the storms would reach, the system did in fact grace Bexhill with an hour long distant light show, and then a short but extremely heavy burst of convective rain with mostly IC lightning.

Not bad at all, even had a huge black/brown spider watch with me on the edge of my window frame. Also a rather sultry 21c (risen as the night has gone on) here right now, but also a keen ENE wind associated with outflow, very odd!

I could see what looked like a wall cloud from my veiwpoint on the south downs! It looked to be around the Horsham vicinity heading north!

Where are you sat?

I'm not far away from Chez in North Wingfield.

I've been watching it roll in for about forty minutes out Matlock direction and South over Derby direction. I'm not sure that we will score a direct overpass, but the light show is fantastic along with the distant rumbles and booming.

Is amusing just as we get into Autumn and when I’m away in the Peak District the thunderstorm shield smashes apart! 😅 Smashing it down here near Ashbourne with frequent thunder and lightning

Yeah Gatwick is a fairly busy airport at night.  Quite a few people moaning that they are in Bristol or Birmingham at 2am....

Better than flying inside a supercelluar CB.

When you’re waiting patiently by the window in the dark for lightning, you feel something crawl up your neck, you flick your neck and hear something hit the ground with a thud……I’ve changed my mind - bring back May/June storms 😢😢😢

Omg what was it
