A bust for the region, bar Cumbria.

Could still be a few heavy showers or storms that move through a bit later though, so we’ll see. Certainly though, the main storm potential is NE England, Cumbria, Northumberland way…a lot further N than I thought it would be at this time.

More torrential rain and thunder, being spoilt today!

Ooh couple of big rumbles rolling around the fells, brightening up now.

Had some spits and spots of rain nothing more, when should we throw in the towel?

Had to book a late deal holiday to cheer us up :-)

Aye our daughter moved over there to the darkside a few years ago.

in fairness, happy valley is a lovely place when the sun shines but it can be a bit dicy when torrential rain and storms are about.

no doubt Hebden Bridge will be chocker when we drive through.

I think something lively went through Hebden Bridge about 4pm going off the radar.  I waved it off in it's embryonic stage in my neighbourhood.  It was just a mere disorganised shower cloud here but built up momentum as it travelled north.

It looks a bit barren now looking further south, unless we have some homegrown brewings.

Hit twice hard now. Heavy thundery rain and bolts of lightning past hour and half. Drains not taking the rate of rain, lots of surface water flooding. Hefty rain totals by the end of the day after a bone dry month so far.

Lets see if we experience a third pulse.

One notable aspect of the day is the exceptional humidity, 95%!

This eve will bring a sudden dusk, quite a shock after many light evenings.

I can’t believe how dire today has been for most of the region. I at least thought there would be something

There is still time;. The peak of the instability was supposed to be late evening and there was MLCAPE until the early hours but not sure I can trust all that anymore

I'd prefer to miss storms than snow to be honest!

Looks to me like it’s over. So utterly disappointing.

Met Office forecast

Headline:

Gradually turning cooler and less humid but with thunderstorms possible.

This Evening and Tonight:

Heavy and thundery showers continuing this evening, possibly bringing some flooding and disruption in places. Many of the thunderstorms will clear overnight, but further heavy showers remain possible. Another fairly warm, humid and uncomfortable night for sleeping. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Monday:

Often cloudy with scattered showers, these heavy in places and perhaps locally thundery. More general periods of rain are possible in Cumbria by the evening. Still rather warm and humid. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Turning more changeable and cooler with some rain on Tuesday. Sunny spells on Wednesday with temperatures returning to around average then further rain and stronger winds arriving on Thursday.

Outside Cumbria.....what thunderstorms?

A third intense pulse of thunder, lightning and very heavy rain.

The Lake District has been the sweet spot today, just keeps giving. Easily a couple of inches of rain.

So jealous of those that have had storms today. We’ve had to suffer this heat all week and for nowt.

It's been fantastic. Another lovely warm night last night as well.
