It's a strange one, been fairly dry most of the day. Roads were actually drier when I cycled home this evening than they were this morning. But the Mersey has burst its banks near Stockport in the same places that it did a couple of years ago.

Sounds like the Manchester rain shadow effect. If it had been a winter snow event it probably would have been one of those rare occasions where locations 'out of the shadow' such as Crewe, Liverpool & Chester would have seen more snow  than the likes of Stockport, Gtr MCR, Tameside etc... 18th Jan 2013 is a good example - several cm and heavy snow here, a dusting in Stockport.

Barely a sprinkle here all day.. its a very odd set up.

Yes, I noticed that the Lake District was away from even the yellow weather warning zone for rain today. I also noted however that you will be getting gale force winds tomorrow, at 60-70mph the strongest in the country. So Storm Babet will not have not completely passed you by before it finally heads away north.

The Mersey seems to be peaking at Northenden, still 40cm below the record last year. Could go higher I guess if the rain forecast after midnight arrives, the heavy stuff looks to be on the other side of the Peak District catchment right now.

Close to 75mm has fallen in Buxton town center since midnight (so far), not counting yesterday evening & what's left to come i'd say that easily 90mm has fallen in the local area especially on the eastern-facing hills.

10c pretty much all day…

49mm today with 60mph+ gusts… direction of wind with rain has caused water ingress on side of garage coming through the dining room ceiling… all damp in the corner facing east… have woodburner on, making lounge hot then open doors so air circulates and can dry it out overnight

🙈🙈🙈 happened a few times before but only when wind is this strong from east with constant rain…

The journey back from Pembrokeshire has been arduous. Eight and a half hours for 200miles. Thankfully back now and thoughts are to all those still trying to protect their properties I’ve seen throughout Mid Cyrmu and all others dealing with the flooding right now.

Thought the rain was getting heavier again here is the reason why.

your area and more especially Kasim Awan, would see metres of snow off this setup 6 weeks or so later

Indeed mm converted to cm probably 2 feet of snow here… and metres in Kasims case…

but the rain shadow effect would probably have meant no snow here as it’d have extended to here (as is usually the case, especially with a se wind) 🙈🙈🙈

How we wish and always do the 1-10 ratio but it almost never comes to fruition.

Floating back door mat here until I’d cleared leaves from back door drain… rain is clearing to drizzle.., wind disappeared… hopefully tomorrow and Sunday better here… 🤞🤞🤞

54mm here today

Quite a difference with how things are in south Derbyshire… Chesterfield sounds like it’s been hit badly…

staying up later to try and get over jet lag… sleep back to normal tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞
