Here's another from that 2015 event, where you can clearly see the Bournemouth supercell's path:

Getting some solid Altocumulus Castellanus ahead of it here, although it's really hard to see against such a bright and hazy sky today.

Absolutely no chance here tonight with the direction of travel. Would need something to fire in like Cornwall with that much of an easterly component

That nearer one was just anaprop I'm afraid, confirmed by its disappearance on the 16.25 frame.

Well spotted, they are also moving In a more northerly direction than I would have expected, but as Azazel said, they need fire much further west to bring central southern areas into play.

If these cells maintain and intensify, they should land somewhere between the IOW and Brighton, maybe slightly further east, what do you guys think?

Wow this was 2015???? Remember it well! I could see the top of the Bournemouth cell lighting up like a Belisha Beacon before we then got clobbered - repeat of that would be nice 👍

I have a video of the storm flickering in the distance. One of the single most amazing storms I’ve seen - it was just constantly flickering, maybe about 3 times a second?

I thought I had it on YouTube somewhere but a search just now brought nothing up so I’ll have to scan through the old hard drives to find it.

meanwhile I did find this slow motion compilation from the summer 2017 storm…

No problem! They're basically just false radar returns. Some have said they're caused by ships out over the sea. The ones seen on the 1620 and 1630 radar frames do seem to line up with the major shipping route out there that can be seen live here:

Not a lot will top the 4th July 2015!
Still ranks as one of the best night outbreaks since 2001 or 2005. From one tiny Speck off Bournemouth to a full blown monster in minutes!

I remember that as well, it was amazing to see it trundle from the Dorset coast all the way up here unscathed. A spectacular night display.

Currently in the Charente and a lot of elevated convection kicking off here. Cloudbase must be 5k ft or more. Had one out of the blue massive CG half an hour ago but plenty more to come this evening and through into Monday

Sea temperature will make no difference to this stuff, it is popping up new cells in Biscay as I write
