Could be quite an interesting day, thunderstorm-wise. Here’s hoping

Could contain:

Yup 😊 ,  woke me up about 8am with a solid crack / boom near by and torrential rain. reset the local substation and rebooted the house , back to clearing skies and heat now .. tropical 😊    .. .grabbed a cuppa and sat in the conservatory .. love it when its torrential rain hitting the conservatory roof .. bit too loud when its hailing though (ear defenders required).

Irs 19.1C 95% humidity here in the south west, sun breaking through and its like an oven.

Totally agree. Feels warmer than yesterday due to the extreme humidity. Had rain overnight but hoping that's it for today - got a BBQ planned and filling up the paddling pool for the little ones.

Looking at the radar, I’m hoping the pretty unforecast mass of rain will have moved through within a few hours so I can still bbq later this afternoon

Bit better today, spot of rain and good cloud cover helping to drop the temps down a fair bit, might actually be able to do something today!

I’m now worried about that second mass of s***e coming out of France

my weather app is saying full sun for later but surely that can’t be correct.

30C at midday. I'm GUESSING that somewhere, between here and the cloud, will push yesterday's 33.2C? 🤔💦

More of a southerly breeze in the past hour and just clouded over here, 31 degrees on my weather station will probably be the max. Possible rogue downpour later?

I wonder how this spell compares to the first ten days of July 1976. No comparison to the last ten days of June '76, of course!

Yep right up the channel hitting iow head on. Temperature differences either side of the “mass” of rain etc is approx 6-7 c so must be pushing cooler air in with it?

To put it into perspective, the average maximum in January is around 7C. That would equate to a maximum day time temperature of about -3C…for a week.

That would be fairly unprecedented.

The coldest ever max at Heathrow was -6c. About 15c below average.

The record high of 40.2c is 16.3c warmer than the July average max.

The record low of -13.2c is 15.9c below the January average min. You will never ever see a summer min 15c above average, ever.

December 2010s average high of 3.9c was 4.9c below average. A July 4.9c above average would have a mean max of 28.8c (the current record holder being 28.3c).

I don't think there is much of a difference when comparing extremes of heat vs cold, relative to average.

To be fair the temperature is absolutely rocketing here, it’s risen nearly 5C in the last hour. Up to 26C now.

Lots of sunshine…

Although those showers coming out of northern France look like reaching even here later…

That cause this stuff is not the cold front, it's a warm plume being pumped up by Franklin. The cold front is still north of Scotland and perhaps in Ireland, with storms in front of it, may be on it.

A disappointing morning, the heat going out with a whimper and a day earlier than expected looks a morning a of drizzly decaying showers - grim.

Glad I got on the sunbed yesterday now!!

Yes, another scorcher, was hoping for some properly thundery conditions at some point but looks a bit underwhelming. Though a good soak wouldn’t go amiss. It’d be nice if a hot spell actually ended with a big thunderstorm outbreak and not poxy drizzle lol
