The one south of Bristol that had -7.9C a couple of days ago had -8.7C this morning. I'm not sure I trust it. Nearby had -3.8C but if it's usually coldest for that area, then it's not impossible.

Doubt somewhere near Bristol coldest spot. Another freezing one tonight, - 7.8 degrees figure to beat. If there was snow cover at Shap would easily be beaten.

That original -7.9C at Bristol had some others nearby only a few degrees off when it was a calm night so seemed possible. The -8.7C looked more anomalous. It's  -6C now while they're around 0C and there is a breeze which should even things up so it looks odd. In the absence of more information, I think there is too much doubt about this station and will not mention it again.

I don’t think there is any snow at Shap beyond a very slight dusting. Come to think of it the weather station isn’t at Shap either, its in front if Wet Sleddale Reservoir.

Shap looks to be rising now so it will probably take England's new low with -9.4C. There is a -7.9C and -8.2C at independents in Wales that have not bottomed yet.

Shap doing it again. Cumbria growing its cold pool. In slack NE/N airstreams it often does.

I think the urban lows in Lancashire are worth a mention - some -5s in greater Manchester and -6s in Warrington. I wonder when they last saw similar.

Looks like the independent low in Wales is Is- Y- Coed with -8.5C.

I think Candacraig's high of -3.1C is not really off topic if it sets us up for another possible new low tonight. It is already down to -6.7C. There are several independents in Cumbria that look to have not reached 0C today, even if Shap did.

I suspect somewhere in Vale of York fog will not have reached 0C. My garden peaked at 0.8C and I still have tiny bits of snow survived in the shade.  My own personal low is -2.6C last night but that might go again tonight since it is currently -1.0C. It's getting into worrying territory. I had a burst pipe last year when a cold week culminated in around -6C and a previous one during March 2018 when it was similar but for two weeks.  No colder for Yorshire after tonight, please!

Beginning to see similiar conditions to last December, ice days for some, and homegrown cold developing. Possibly coldest night of this spell ahead, tomorrow night in Scotland probably colder still.

I was at Shap today and Wet Sleddale. Freezing fog in Eden Valley and temps didn't go above 0 degrees. Interesting to see where the fog held all day.

Wow wasn't expecting such a low!

Conditions are perfect in parts of Scotland for low temperatures over the weekend. I suspect a -15c is on the cards.

To think -15 could be breached so early in the season! Quite a few winters failed to deliver anything lower than -12 degrees.

I think Braemar hit -17c during the cold spell last December. Regardless, winter 2023 has certainly made an impact so far.
