Sat enjoying a coffee near Man airport.  Skies overcast and look a bit grey in parts, it's lovely though, local temp 22.4°C.  Milky hazey sunshine, I wonder what temp would be under clear skies.

Scuba steve I did have the Lake District in mind but with it being weekend there's a chance any overnight parking spots will be taken by the usual campervan folks, so somewhere around the Hawes area is going to be my initial target as the MetO cloud forecast keeps the area completely clear up until 4am with no worries about sea-fog rolling in.

Hoping the solar forecast is correct, and with no Moon present it just might be the solar storm of our lifetimes to those all across the UK under clear skies.

Bright here rather than sunny today and at 23c it’s still our warmest day of the year but unless it clears later in the day, it could be a massive kick in the teeth and screw up our chances of seeing the northern lights.

it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if the cloud did hang around though but if there’s any chance of seeing something and with no work in the morning, it could be a beer free night with the car keys at the ready for a glimpse of something that even at 62 I have still never seen.

Got up to 24c locally here in S Cheshire today first humid feeling day of the season too with more cloud around turning the sun hazy at times. Tomorrow looks similar before the shower risk potentially thundery increases into Sunday breaking down into cooler more unsettled weather next week.

Happy weekend everyone! ☀️

Another sunny and warm day here, reached 24.7C. Looking like one more warm and sunny day before the potential of some fun and games on Sunday.

Best part of the day here now.

still a bit of cloud but we’ve lost the bright but hazy skies from earlier and got full blown sunshine so maybe all is not lost with seeing the Northern Lights later.

Managed 24c here today too, although I didn't believe it until I came on here and saw what others had reached. Far above the forecast temp. Will it be beaten tomorrow or was today the peak? Intrigued by the potential aurora display tonight, so the torch is all charged up and if needed I can get to the darkest place I can find. Clear right now so fingers crossed.

Rush2019 Probably not a lot different under clear skies given our region had some of the highest temps in the country today. There was enough sunshine to raise the temps and then it cleared later in the afternoon.

24.1C the high at Rostherne so easily the warmest day of the year so far and warmer than forecast.

I'm not in the NW at present, but interesting reading all these 23-24 degree highs, whereas all the warmest official station temps are in the east, Newcastle on 24 degrees, England high.. none in the NW.

damianslaw Rostherne is an official site and recorded 24.1C officially. 24.2C officially recorded at Hawarden as well.

Only Northolt was higher than those at 24.4C.

22.7C at Keswick.

Further west 24.0C was recorded at Trawscoed.

Overall the west did best today but there were also some high temps in the east.

Reached 25.5°C here today which seems crazy but I have two other sensors which both read within 0.3° of that as well.

Sunday would be the only day that I am busy most of the afternoon and can't weather watch; typical. Hopefully nothing kicks off until the evening.

Scorcher Ok thanks quite a rarity to see both the NW and NE record highest temps, rare indeed.

A solar storm of this scale can cause disruptions to infrastructure such as the power grid.

northern lights visible in Kent and London tonight supposedly but not here or I haven’t seen them on our jaunt to London… too much light pollution I think…

To be honest, I've never seen anything like this. No need for a camera. Get somewhere pitch black and it's visible.
