Glad others posted the overhead wispy streaks.   No colour to my naked eye so I did wonder if they were dispersing contrails!   Rare to have a warm night for astromony!   The cold  puts me off usually. Temp now 13.9C.

It's been a warm night here, temp only got down to 13.3C, so may well have been higher in towns and cities. The temperature is already starting to rise, the first 25C of the year might well be on the cards today.

Really was amazing to see the aurora last night and given the awful conditions of the last few months, for it to coincide with clear skies and decent temperatures was even more surprising.

I was still going out well after midnight to see what it was like but early starts caught up with me and I called it a day.

first time I can truthfully say I’ve seen the northern lights and with conditions remaining favourable, it looks like we could get another chance again tonight with the massive irony of waiting 62 years for the first sighting but then only 24 hours for the second one.

before that though, another fantastic days weather is on the cards and timed with the weekend so a quick trip out for the weekly shop will be followed by a few hours working in the garden before hopefully an afternoon enjoying the sunshine and a few beers.

Then maybe the first BBQ of the season later.

whatever your up to, enjoy.

Good Morning 🙂  we are in for another warm treat of a day, 8.20am and 18.6°C.  Mums shopping all done and dusted.

I was looking for the aurora last night but couldn't see anything.  Hopefully tonight I'll get out to a vantage point and try and avoid the a Manchester light glare. Some absolutely fantastic pics though on this thread and the aurora one, what a night.

Rush2019 if you're not looking to venture too far away then Magpie Mine south of Buxton is a great dark-sky spot. There's plenty of parking available, phone signal, and likely a few other folks also having the same idea.

Slipped through the aurora last night, had a crazy day. I knew it was coming but just fell asleep.
Hopefully have another chance tonight. A lot of light pollution around here so it's difficult but maybe somewhere around St Cuthbert's rugby club with the Douglas valley to the north might be a reasonable place.

A few highlights from last night's Aurora, taken under the dark skies of the Yorkshire Dales just outside of Kirkby Stephen.

Ive said many a time how by mid May a high overhead no wind, gentle easterly tug, can see temps soar to mid 20s under solar heating. We have such a set up today..

Carlisle at 23 degrees already, Keswick nudging 23 degrees. May we see a 25 degrees, quite probably.

Interesting to see how much of Scotland and far N England again seeing highest temps beating Heathrow currently.

I can see a pixel of convection far south Scotland, could be a few homegrown downpours this afternoon triggered by the heat, indicating this is not a stable airmass.

Just reached 24c on my sensor and it’s tucked well away in the shade so is usually pretty accurate.

this would be a decent spell of weather in any year but given that we have to go back 11 months for something as good, it shows how poor things have been and how welcome a few days of warm, dry and sunny weather is.

22.5C here, temperature rise was hampered a bit by earlier cloud cover I think. Not sure if we'll hit 25C here today, although another 2 hours of heating to go at least so we'll see. Regardless, it's a very warm day.

A lovely 22.5°C currently, sky a little hazy.

I'm hoping Macc isn't too far East to enjoy tomorrow's storms.
