First set of photos were taken yesterday after the brief sleet and snow showers in the early hours. We had a light sleet shower around midday that then cleared to sunny spells for most of the afternoon. But then a heavier sleet shower came over in the very late afternoon which would later freeze and compact during the night hours as temps fell below freezing leading to lethal icy roads.

Then these were the scenes we had this morning as we walked up our local road after the temperature had reached its lowest value of -7.5C.😟

Really not good that the roads were not gritted as several people had been stuck around our hamlet for most of the day as they haven't been able to drive back out.

Great pictures - except for the upturned car which is nasty!  How on earth did it end up on its roof?  They never grit lanes like this round here - just the A roads, and the B-roads if you’re lucky!  Icy hills and sloping cambers in the early morning frosts are extremely treacherous.

A couple of hours of wild weather must be expected on Sunday evening as Storm Isha crosses Wales this weekend.  This is the picture from the UKMO showing gusts widely around 70mph (120kph) at 10:00pm Sunday…..

IMG_1311.thumb.png.13396b53d03e62dca714c0993a420fa1.png

I think we can expect somewhere in the most exposed areas to record over 90mph at some point.  Hope my shed can take it….! 🤞

Isha might not be arriving for a bit but getting quite gusty here.

We (Cymru) will probably see the strongest of the winds Sunday evening circa 80mph for the usual exposed spots, perhaps a tad more for those in extreme exposure to the Sw'erly flow (Aberdaron, Capel Curig, Mumbles etc)  as Isha tracks NE to the Nw of Scotland Sunday evening,  with core central pressure around 945-950mb, Isha's Cold Front will be interesting

Does anyone else think the weather warnings page looks absolutely ridiculous and confusing

lol ... yes just a tad, defo needs revising to improve clarity, one of the worst I have seen to date for warnings on top of warnings, a good job we have a mild flow otherwise we'd have snow and ice warnings in the mix too.

I had deferred the "battening down" until tomorrow morning .. the "lull" before the Storm  , in hindsight I should have done it yesterday 😁 a wet and windy Saturday we have

Why don't they just colour the region in the warning area and put a keycode by the side of it ? Simple and easier to understand. ☺

This is finlands metoffice warning system. Much easier to read. Clickable areas that expand and explain warnings in more detail. Our metoffice could learn a thing or two from this layout

An observation that the fire fighting effort for the Bridgend fire might have been very different in Wednesday/Thursday evening's temps.

That’s very similar to the European weather alert system.

I find AccuWeather app is spot on. It’s postcode/geolocation based and they often put out the notification before it goes live on the metoffice website.

Isha looks like she will ramp up with damaging winds from 9 to midnight tomorrow night. Looks quite nasty. 60-80mph gusts. Scotland perhaps getting the strongest gusts after midnight with 60-90mph gusts.

Rainfall total midnight to midnight came in at 38.8mm, still raining! Should I start growing webbed feet?🦆😉

Morning all. Another winter storm is upon us.
Just wondering what website/app people find the most accurate for wind speed. I tend to look at BBC (metogroup), met office and XC weather (GFS I believe). What I can see at the moment is XC weather is over playing current wind gusts by and estimated 20mph. It’s also showing the highest maximum wind speed later today around 15mph above the others. Which is pretty standard in my experience.

No amber warning here but Mold, 2 miles away has one, I'm kinda feeling left  out.

For forecasts I tend to stick with MetOffice, occasonally cross checking with BBC. For actually reported gusts I go to wetteronline.com and click 'Latest wind speeds' in the 'UK Links' box which currently shows Capel Curig at 73 mph and Aberdaron at 61 mph plus a few stations further south in their 50's.
